Re: Atom as a simple server

I would pony up the few bucks to get the dual core 330.

BTW, What Atom 230 MB are you looking at that has a PCI Express x1 slot?

Re: Changing FSB option not available.....

A 7200 rpm HD will give a nice performance boost over 5400 or 4200 models, but will tax your battery a bit more.

Re: Fastest hd

But if you're looking for the cheapest per I/O, a different drive pops up on the radar.

BTW, I own 2 x 640GB SE16's, a 1TB "Black", 500GB & 750GB SE16's, a Raptor as well as a couple of Seagates.
I guess you might say I lean towards the WD flavor drives.

Re: Problem with my new machine!!

I'm thinking RAM too. A-data isn't the greatest :-/ No, A-Data isn't "the greatest", but I've never had any problems using it, either DDR or DDR2. I have had problems with Crucial Ballistix and OCZ DDR2. :-? Most A-Data DDR2-800 kits run on 1.8v, but the Vitesta Extreme kits require 2.0-2...

Re: Fastest hd

And if you can spend even more than that...
Buy an Intel X25-E for your OS and apps, using 3 x 300GB VelociRaptors (RAID 5), for your bulk storage. :P

Re: Fastest hd

Yep, the WD 640GB "Black" is the drive to go with.
Don't fall for lower density 500GB HDs because they're a couple of bucks less.
If you can swing a bit more $$, go for the 1TB "Black".
