This is a ubiquitous problem. Have you seen the names they are coming up with for drugs? No one wants to take tributleclorineacetatemegaldeathpillsofliverkillingcycleaccteate. I really hope folders won't have to mess with "beta" or "advanced" flags to get the new and improved GPU core projects. So, my 970 is what, about a year and a half old. Just now they are getting core 18 out to run reasonably on this architecture. They are easily 2 years behind O...

Re: Help with distinct wet dog smell?

Could be mold spores. rain damage allowed them to seed, and high humidity(not necessarily new water) cause them to sprout. Not anything you can do other than rip out the insulation and drywall in the area that was affected (you will find the black mold only once you are tearing the wall/ceiling out)...

At this point, I just want to hear that Core 18 is back for Maxwell. Has been for over a month...set your card to advanced or Beta(using current drivers as you mention). The Folding forums themselves are helpful; I got relatively quick responses to questions I had. However, I never saw a ton of news. Wow...I have never heard anyone say that before. sometimes after 3 or 4 months, PG might respond to a question on their Reddit. More often than not, they don't ever re...

Re: Leaked specs on 980ti Titan X and 390x

Anyone buying a 4GB 390X for 4K is going to be disappointed that they don't have enough memory to use features that the GPU is fast enough to run. Rumor is they will launch at 8GB for just that reason. Regarding price, if it works...and is as fast as they anticipate...I'd say it would be priced clo...

Re: Good old days RAM Prices

Not holding my breath. Those prices were due to a vast oversupply situation. Manufactures have moved on, allocating production to FLASH, etc. You can't expect prices to be well under the cost of production for very long. PS ..picked up 32GB 1600 cas 10 Notebook memory for my Lenovo w530 for $100 del...

Re: CHALLENGE: New Geforce 970 breaks Ethernet

After reading the pages I have come to the conclusion that if you want to run the 970 you need a new PC. New MOBO, new ram, new CPU, new case, and a new PSU. You can probably getaway with re-using the harddrive/s. That Dell form factor just isn't suited to run the 970. (As an after thought, what PC...

Re: CHALLENGE: New Geforce 970 breaks Ethernet

Well, IDK. The chipset might be an issue. Intel® H61 Express Chipset has a limited capacity of pcie lanes. The slot is most likely Pcie 2. The new card might be overloading the chip-set and the ethernet suffers as a result. Of course, not having enough 12 v power in the MB, through the VMR, and the ...

well, a little more complex... Yeah, I paid $4000 for a Micron XPE 266 notebook(in 1999-2000?? dollars) ...top of the line, lasted 7 years.... But, yeah, Notebooks have certainly come down since then. Here's hoping I haven't suffered any permanent damage. Sorry, but you did. While you might not notice it, whenever you have ringing in your ears from noise exposure, you have suffered a degree of permanent nerve damage. You loose hearing range as you age naturally, loud noise exposure only accelera...

Re: Your motherboard that had the most CPU upgrades

Yeah, I don't remember the socket, but it was an AMD board. As I recall, you could go from the first 64 bit consumer chip(claw-hammer) through a couple of bumps in speed and ultimately to a real two core if not a real three core all on the same MB. During the same time, Intel only managed to come ou...

Re: Why are modern PSUs put on the floor of the case?

A good PSU can handle more heat than your CPU.

What gives you that idea?

Very, very high quality PSU can run at 50C...very good at 40c...average quality...well, do your best to keep it under 35C.

I think you know that A CPU can take more than 50C.

Re: Why are modern PSUs put on the floor of the case?

Primary is better airflow and thermal management in the case. Secondary is cable management, (graphics cards are often closer to the bottom of the case than the top...ditto with multiple HDD) and weight distribution. The old large tower cases were indeed prone to tipping if bumped on the edge of the...
