Re: Print Job Eating Utility

Exactly. So, the printer is supposed to be added via the print queue share on the machines not via IP. Windows 10 seems to allow users to add printers without admin rights and potential bring your own device policy. Unfortunately, changing the IP would cause a break down for special devices that can...

Print Job Eating Utility

In my environment we use static IP'ed printers. The problem I run into is when someone decides to not add a printer through the print server share but via IP. This generally leads to someone either sending a weird print job possibly because they selected a wacky driver or they send thousands of prin...

Re: 6 Pin to 8 Pin Power Converter

I was given an HP Z420 workstation for free and was hoping to make it into a second gaming workstation since I have a spare Geforce GTX1060. The downside is I noticed the Z420's power supply only has two 6 pin PCI-E power connectors and not the single 8 pin I need for the card. It's a 600 Watt powe...

Looks like 1903 was officially released yesterday. I updated my machine and haven't had any issues so far. It seems like it updated faster then previous build updates but maybe it's a placebo effect.

USB Keyboard Support in Windows Boot Manager

For legacy application purposes I have several HP 8300 desktops that are dual booting Windows 7 and Windows XP. The problem is Windows Boot Manager doesn't recognize the USB keyboard in order for users to hit up or down for the OS boot selection. I'm trying to dust off my brain on this because I cou...

I agree! Miele is totally worth the investment.

List of Old LAN Games

I'm trying to come up with the ultimate list of older games that actually allow you to play them in old school local LAN matches. So far I've come up with the below list but please let me know ones I might be missing! I'm trying to expand my collection! Starcraft 1 Warcraft 2 Warcraft 3 + Expansion ...

Customer Scheduling Software

The last time I purchased an appliance from Home Depot I noticed they're using a customer delivery scheduling system that looked pretty snazzy. When I saw that you can go in as the customer and see time slots that are still open and select them I thought it would be really helpful to have something ...

SFP Capabilities

I'm used to identical SFP modules communicating with each other between switches. Lets say I want to toss a 10Gbps SFP into my Ubiquiti switch that will be communicating to an Intel fiber 10Gbps connection in a server. Am I going to have problems?

Server Racks

I just bought a few servers off of eBay to start the next phase of my training lab at home. I'm looking for around an 18U rack preferably with locking wheels and I was just curious what a good place might be to get one on the inexpensive side?

Thank you both for the info! For my home test environment I'll go the route of one physical server for VCenter and then I'll have two or three beefier servers as hosts.

VMWare Question

I'm trying to better understand a standard VMWare ESXi production system. I'm wondering for the VCenter portion is this supposed to be installed on a physical server and then have your hosts tie into it or do people toss it on a guest VM which to me sounds like shooting yourself in the foot?

I'm looking to start queuing up the replacement of my Windows Home Server 2011 server. I really only needed it for storage of my music and family pictures. Anyhow, I'm looking for a NAS that is a RAID1 or RAID5 that can allow for hot swapping if a drive starts to fail. Any recommendations?

Just circling back to make note that after the December 2017 monthly patches the issue resolved itself for the multiple computers. It used to be I would get maybe 15 minutes out of the computers but I lost the functionality. Now I haven't seen it in weeks thankfully!

Windows 10 Start Menu and Taskbar Issue

I built up a Kaby Lake desktop recently and installed a fresh copy of Windows 10 x64 pro with the latest build 1709.
