Re: Shadow of the Tomb Raider's performance on the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti with ray tracing enabled - 30fps @ 1920x1080

You guys have seen ONE "benchmark" of pre-production hardware on a pre-production software patch and you're calling it a failure already. Good stuff. There is also the conspicuous lack of any benchmark at all in the presentation, it was all RT based. Anyone buying the card now is doing so...

Re: Shadow of the Tomb Raider's performance on the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti with ray tracing enabled - 30fps @ 1920x1080

I'd wait for the final hardware and software and sincerely doubt that Nvidia would bet the farm on a feature that hobbles their flagship GPU to 30FPS at 1080p. If anyone wonders why these companies are so frugal with unfettered access to their products before release, this is why. If this was a big...

Re: Do a stop-gap build? Or go whole hog? ("Pentium Gold" v. "Ryzen," and other curiosities)

Because Newegg says so. ⋅ i7-8700K = $360, R7 2700X = $330 ⋅ i5-8600K = $260, R5 2600X = $260 Intel Z370 boards are an extra 30% more expensive than B360 boards, comparing like brand/model (eg Asus Prime) Intel's stock coolers are utterly worthless, so you need to spent at least...

Re: How Apple Dethroned Intel As the World's Most Innovative Chipmaker

I'm not an expert (or a doctor), but my guess would be that given physics and thermal constraints are the current bottleneck for getting faster chips, my guess would be if Apple REALLY wanted to produce a competitive chip that was better than Intel in SOME things and competitive in others, they coul...

Re: Child Proofing the digital world

I’m looking more for ways to lock things down, whether it’s through apps, software like net nanny, or router rules and configurations. I’m all for rules, but this is a tech site n stuff, I’m happy to google ideas, but I was hoping some badass TR dads have gone through this already. It’s weird raisin...

Child Proofing the digital world

I have a daughter who's about to turn 3, so it's time to start thinking about protecting her little eyes from all the wacky stuff one can stumble onto with a connected device. Right now she mostly just watches Disney clips on YouTube on a retired iPhone, but this is definitely an issue I want to get...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Did you take a look at Nicehash? I briefly played with Ethereum, but after a couple days switched to Nicehash around the time it got popular. Instead of picking a coin and mining for yourself, people pay Nicehash to use your system to mine whatever coin they wanted to buy, and you are guaranteed st...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

I know what you mean by this. I've thought about it like that a few times too. I just don't really agree that is the reality of the current state of mining. Most, like high nineties percent, people are mining to make money, and not to further the uptake of Blockchain. If it were the latter I'd have...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

Lots of coins are moving to proof of stake, which will diminish mining, but I also don’t think mining is going anywhere for a while with all these alt coins popping up. Nah, I know that. I just don't have to and won't like it. I get the frustration, but the basis behind it is well intended. When mi...

AMEN!!! I think that ship has sailed, crypto isn’t going anywhere. It’s a kind of an “if you can’t beat em, join em situation,” or maybe I’m a fan of getting money. Re: So who here is actually mining?

Just great, now we are to have a shortage of CPUs as well... I wouldn’t worry about that, Monero is damn near impossible to mine with CPUs given how the difficulty has risen, my comment was more of a PSA for people who might be interested in casual mining with what they have. Most people here have ...

Re: So who here is actually mining?

It’s funny, during the beginning of the etherum craze, I had a pair of 7950 cards, which were just about the best cards for mining. I also lived in a complex that didn’t charge me electricity, but I didn’t see the thing catching on so I never bothered looking into it. Fast forward to now, makes me w...

I was talking to a childhood friend last night, someone I've known since age 7. We can deconstruct things all we want but at the end of the day... Abrams gave us OUR Han Solo back before he dies. We got OUR Leia back. We DID NOT get OUR Luke. Everything else is fodder, Luke didn't FEEL like...

The vision in my right eye has been a little worse than in the left ever since. (Nothing that can't be corrected with the proper prescription, but the right lens is noticeably thicker.) The worst for me is when a full screen game ends up no longer on my main screen, but on one of the screens I have set vertically. Try using the menus going from 3440x1440 to 1600x2560.

Weird behavior with with multiple monitors

So I use 4 monitors, one is actually a tv which I don't use most of the time. For whatever reason, after my computer wakes from sleep, it shifts the position of all my windows across different monitors. The maddening thing is it almost always takes my main chrome tabs and sticks them on the tv that ...
