Re: Mouse performance question

Would you consider nuking it from orbit? It's just silly that you haven't found yet a solution since january, so the chances of finding the cause now is pretty slim. I considered it not an option. I haven't found the problem yet because I don't spend hours every day trying to. I have too man...

Re: Mouse performance question

Assuming this is a home system, do you have any other systems at home you've ever connected to from it? What version of Windows are you using? When the right-click menu does come up, do any of the options seem like something that you wouldn't be able to do? Yes, this is a home system but the only o...

Re: Mouse performance question

Not that I know of. To be honest I'm kinda vague on exactly what "is" a mapped network drive?? Would a Flash USB be considered that? I have one that is plugged in constantly running ReadyBoost which is suppose to give a small performance kick. Maybe I'll unplug it just to see what happens....

Mouse performance question

I'm having issues with my mouse performance when I right-click something. For example...say I want to rename a file or folder or delete something. I right-click on it and it takes several minutes before the box will open with the options I need. I've never had this happen before on any computer that...

Re: i7 2600K based high end gaming machine

Sorry, one last part I forgot to mention. I'd like to get a new monitor and finally replace this old 4:3 aspect ratio dinosaur that I've had forever. Again, something that will be best for gaming, I dunno, '22 - '26 inch screen size sound right? I just want the best I can get that is a fit for me an...

The last time I did this was back in the day of the AMD Athlon XP3200, ATI Radeon 9800XT and the nVidia nForce2 motherboards. I used the ASUS A7N8X Deluxe and it was an awesome machine for it's day. The onboard nVidia "SoundStorm" (was that the name??) audio was almost as good, if not bett...

Re: Seagate MomentusXT Hybrid install questions

Been using the XT for almost a week now abd the difference is noticable, especially during Windows boot up. Much faster than before, and before wasn't really all that slow to begin with. For the price it seems like it was a pretty good deal. I want to use my old "c:" drive as storage. Shou...

Seagate MomentusXT Hybrid install questions

I just finished cloning the original Seagate HDD and am ready to install the XT. The question I wanted to ask first before I swap in the new drive is: 1) Are there any settings I need to change since I'm now using a HDD with flash memory? Something in the BIOS maybe? Jumper settings? 2) I'm pretty s...

Re: Laptop storage advice

OK, I think I understand what you mean. On this Pavilion laptop, the primary HDD is also mounted in some kind of bracket with four pieces of rubber on each corner. I would guess that is some sort of shock protection. Then there is a very short, thin SATA cable that clips on the HDD and manages to at...

Re: Laptop storage advice

I've got a 120 GB SSD and a 750 GB WD Scorpio Black in my laptop. The improvement in performance over the original 320 GB Seagate Momentus 7200 is tremendous. I can imagine how fast it must be. That's exactly what I'm hoping to achieve, and it looks like the SSD boot drive is the way I'll go. Proba...

Laptop storage advice

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-3085dx with a Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB HDD. A friend hooked me up with a brand new MomentusXT 500GB hybrid drive, so I'm thinking of doing a straight swap since the XT should be a fair amount faster than the original Momentus drive, according to everything i've read abo...

Would the "Toledo" core, which I think includes the X2 4800+, be a better choice with it's larger 2x1GB L2 cache? The Manchester's I believe have a 2x512MB L2 cache.

Does it make much of a performance difference? Where would any performance gains tend to show up?

Thanks....

I keep reading that it is flashable, and the flash activates the 4 inactive pipes. When the flash is done, supposedly what you should have now is a fully functional graphics card that performs as well as a X850XT PE. OK, I think I understand this RAM issue now.
