Installed Kingdoms of Amalur a few days ago. Really like the game. It's got nice graphics, runs silky smooth and the combat has some interesting mechanics with the combination of multiple weapons and magic.
This year it's been quiet so far. We don't typically get a lot inside but they do like to go up inside of our exterior siding or in the drain holes in our brick. I found a few gels last year that they really loved and it seemed to stop the problem. Time will tell.
Even if it's not the fastest drive you can get for this price I can afford to use it for virtual machines, laptop drives, boot drives on desktop systems. Still going to feel a lot faster than a mechanical drive.
Have you tried running something like Hitachi Drive Fitness Test to see if any errors come back? I assume you've tried a different cable. Maybe check to see if there was ever a firmware update to fix an issue like this.
Has it ever operated at a normal speed? It could be something physically wrong with the drive or the electronics in the enclosure. The only way to rule out the enclosure would be to remove the drive and install it internally or use a different enclosure or drive dock.

If it's working fine on an external enclosure then I would look at the cabling or the motherboard as the issue. Have you swapped another drive to the same cable and port as the drive that's causing problems?
