Re: Crashes after installing Radeon 7950

Got everything to work! Had to swap out the SSD for a newer, prettier model. Now I have no clue why my third monitor always reverts to super low resolution every time I come out of screensaver or when windows first starts up. Unplugging the displayport cable, turning off the monitor, and then reconn...

Re: Crashes after installing Radeon 7950

Used an old platter drive to install windows and it looks like it went just fine. I had to leave while chkdsk was going on because I was trying to get this all done before a business trip but it looks like I might just have to get a new SSD. Might be a good time to migrate to Win8 I guess! I will gi...

Re: Crashes after installing Radeon 7950

Booting linux from a USB drive worked out fine. I decided to do the "burn this motherf**ker to the ground" approach and tried to reinstall my OS. The installation fails on my SSD, and when the system restarts, the SSD no longer showed up on the boot menu until I the computer is actually tu...

Re: Crashes after installing Radeon 7950

Doesn't appear to have any bad contact. Updating bios is next i guess.

EDIT: Maybe I'm just stupid, but the MSI instructions on how to update BIOS are not very good.....I have no idea what they want me to do haha

Re: Crashes after installing Radeon 7950

Should I also try booting into linux from a USB drive and letting it chill out while I go.....eat a sandwich?

Any suspect contact would cause a failure in the case as well I think.

Sounds good, I'll do some inspecting to make sure no suspect "contact" is happening under my nose.

Re: Crashes after installing Radeon 7950

Don't think I've run adobe updates, they seem to have a new one every other day. Also, the explorer I mentioned was the process, not the web browser. Sorry for not being clear earlier. I'm running windows 7. Here's my current setup: MSI X58 Platinum Core i7 920 6GB Corsair Dominator DDR3 Radeon 7950...

Re: Crashes after installing Radeon 7950

I'm using a Corsair TX750, so power shouldn't be an issue. I haven't tried updating the motherboard bios yet, I'll try that next.

I've reseated the memory modules, and I even went back to an older Radeon 4870 and the problem persisted.

Crashes after installing Radeon 7950

Hey guys, I've been dealing with some issues after i installed my Radeon 7950. After a couple minutes of use explorer freezes up but my mouse and gadgets are still active (clock, cpu usage, etc). After another couple of minutes I get the BSOD with the following message: Stop: 0x000000f4 (0x000000000...

Re: Need input on speaker system

The speakers will have to have those L type brackets that they can sit on.

I was posting on another forum and they suggested that I just ditch everything except for the receiver and get the Jamo S606 system with a BIC F12 subwoofer instead.

Opinions?

Re: Need input on speaker system

Okay, so I'm thinking about using the Onkyo TX-SR608 or something similar for my receiver. Back of the receiver: http://www.musicorner.nl/pics/Onkyo%20TX-SR608%20achter.JPG Oh man! That's one helluva receiver! How much does the TX-SR608 cost new? Refurbished? And finally, do they make a newer versi...

Re: Need input on speaker system

One last thing, how important is it to get THX certification? I was a little surprised to see $300 dollar amps without THX certification when my old pc speakers had it at half the price.

Is it worth paying extra for?

Re: Need input on speaker system

Oh okay, that makes a lot of sense that the receiver should be better than my sound card. Don't know why that didn't occur to me earlier. Okay, two more things. First, should I use banana plugs or just stick with bare wire connections? Secondly, I don't know how to place my desk in relation to my sp...

Re: Need input on speaker system

Okay, so I'm thinking about using the Onkyo TX-SR608 or something similar for my receiver. The issue is that I have no idea how to connect my sound card to the receiver. Receiver should be fine because the power handling for the speakers are all 100w and that's exactly what the receiver provides. So...

Re: Need input on speaker system

Perfect, is there anything else I should look for while trying to get the right receiver? The speakers all top out at 120w, while the receiver can only put out 80w per channel, so far so good!

This research part is a lot more enjoyable than I anticipated, just like putting together a PC build :D

So to check for power do I just match the speaker's output to the power output of the amp for the speaker's specific channel?

Re: Need input on speaker system

What receiver should I use for this system? Ideally I would get a refurbished product from Onkyo so I can get a little more bang for the buck Great idea, and one that is suggested a lot. Finally, what kind of speaker wire should I use to connect the speakers to the receiver? Anything that's reasona...

Need input on speaker system

Hi, I'm moving to a new house and need a new speaker system. It will be connected to my computer that does all my gaming, music listening, and movie playback. Connection from the computer will be through my Xonar DX. First question, what would be the best way to connect my sound card to the receiver...

Upgrade Conundrum

Hi, I've been itching for an upgrade for a while now, and was just waiting for the 69xx release to figure things out. I don't know what I should upgrade, my core i7920 or my 4870s in crossfire? My overclock on the CPU is only stable for 3ghz, but I don't know if that is due to my motherboard or not,...

Re: Some weird stuff is happening....

Great, I'll try that and see what happens. Also, I just realized that if you bump into the tower with decent force the computer crashes. Could these two issues be related? I'm using a SSD for my OS, so it can't be because of shock to the hard drives.

Re: Some weird stuff is happening....

Hmm, I don't have the speaker and all my other computer stuff isn't with me at school. What could cause this other than the CMOS battery? How would I fix the CMOS issue?

Some weird stuff is happening....

Hi, I'm encountering a few weird problems.... When I start my computer the fans spin up and everything, but after about 20 seconds or so, it shuts off. Then starts itself again. This will happen a random number of times before I get to post. When I do get to post I get a notice that says my overcloc...

Looking for an upgrade

Hey, I've been using my Logitech z-560s for some years now and they are getting a little long in the tooth. I've been looking at the newer Logitech z-5500s, but will I be getting a decent increase in sound quality over the setup I currently have? My only requirements for the upgrade are that they ar...

That sounds great, will I need to do anything after cloning to make the programs run alright? I assume that the new drive will take on the old drive's letter designation.

I'm in a pickle

Thankfully, I have my OS installed on a separate SSD, only programs and the bootmgr are on the failing drive. How do I move everything including the bootmgr and installed programs to another d...
