Re: Dell laptop "working on it" file delays...

It's some software you've got installed that's doing it - a clean install is probably easier than figuring out which, though.

Re: What is the fastest way to transfer datafrom old to new system ?

meerkt, Thank you for those suggestions. No raid on old system so I will try your first suggestion first when system arrives in couple of days. If not your other suggestion also looks good but is there something else that would utilize USB 3.2 Type C to get 10 Gbps ? 5 Gbps versus 10 Gbps won't mat...

Re: Something's different...

Scraping user posts and presenting them as new "blog" entries is pretty sus too.

It's too bad something couldn't "happen" to the forums to make them and the hits they generate go away forever.

Re: How to fit full length 16X Nvidia T-600 into a 4X Slot ?

If you're careful (and the board doesn't have any components in the way) you can cut out the end of a 4X slot to fit longer cards.

If that's not possible, a riser will work fine.

There aren't 32 lanes of PCIe on those chips. You either get 16 or 20 depending on the generation.

Re: Exchanging Drive Sets in RAID Box

RAID 5 is unlikely to be faster in practice for editing unless you're limited in streaming bandwidth.

That said - why not mount all 4 internally to avoid being limited by the QNAP?

"Supported" versus working are very different. That's said...run 10. There's zero reason to stick with 7 past EOL.

If you have PCI slots - anything with an old Rage XL chipset. Under $20 new and super low power.

Re: Seeking some handholding - fan setup, temp understanding

Those temps are perfectly fine (better than normal, actually). My 5900X on a full custom loop still runs into the 70s under load. It's literally nothing to worry about.

Re: Vaccinated?

One of the takeaways from this thing should be how horribly inefficient the FDA has been when it comes to reviewing and approving these things. What we saw with these vaccines is what happens when the process is actually allowed to proceed at the same rate as testing - not waiting for months or yea...

If it's a recent model it should be fine. 3000 series are sometimes "peaky" under load and larger PSUs handle it better, but a good PSU should be fine.

Side effects from first Moderna, basically nothing. Side effects from second Moderna - 102 fever and fatigue for 2 days. Expected it going in and took time off of work. Side effects from both: 90%+ reduced chance to catch COVID and hand it on, and if I get it, it's dramatically less likely to be ser...

Re: Motherboards and BIOS PCIe bifurcation required

You need to check your specific board/CPU/BIOS combination to see if lane bifurcation is supported. It's pretty hit or miss - my X570 board can do it, but my last Z170 board could not.

You can not rule it out if you wish. Bumping up the IMC voltage will likely bring it back to stability.

Considering there's essentially zero active components on the board between the slots and the pins...it's the CPU.
