Re: an LED IPS display, please

Even the HD+ screens which are available on the T420/T520 (I'll stick to the 2011 models) are noticeably better in color reproduction, have a bit higher max brightness (50 more nits), and feel much more sharp than the griddy 1366x766 screens. The sRGB screens have a higher color gamut, and when cali...

Re: an LED IPS display, please

Yes they can do pretty neat things like shut down sections, but the reality is that edge lit models behave exactly like CCFL models. The power consumption argument is the most useless one when you take into account people with power hungry video cards and CPUs that are sometimes overclocked. I'm sur...

Re: an LED IPS display, please

NEC has the EA232WMi that is using W-LED Edge lightning to replace the CCFL from the EA231WMi. The panel doesn't seem to be as good as the 231WMi from some reviews tho.

But LED is mostly gimmicks outside from notebooks as far as computer monitors go at the moment.

Re: Best laptop quality and performance for price $1000

Best quality would most certainly not be from Acer.

That aside, with the budget restriction of $1000, it's hard to recommend a really solid notebook with a good enough GPU to play 3D games. Asus has some nice laptops around 800$, but they're not built like tanks either.

Re: Spinpoint F3

After much transfer, I can safely say that the HD103SJ is defiantly a great drive. It's idle sound is a bit more pronounced than the WD Blue/Blacks but it doesn't seem to make any audible noise over a pair of 800RPM Scythe S-Flex fans. I activated AAM (just like I do with my WD drives) on the drive ...

Re: Spinpoint F3

I will tell you when I receive mine next week.

People over at SPCR say they make a bit less noise than the Spinpoint F1 which were already damn quiet. What differentiates the Samsungs from WD Blacks is the seek noises, WD makes a grinding one while Samsung are much more subtle.

Re: Spinpoint F3

NCIX and Direct Can won't stock the F3s, they had bad luck with the F1 and they simply never restocked much of them, fearing another 7200.11/DeathStar apocalypse.

Re: Spinpoint F3

The 1TB is back up on Newegg. It's currently at $85 with free shipping. Compared to the Caviar Black which is $110 and has slightly worse/comparable performance... it really isn't a comparison at all. The Samsung is the clear winner. Allright, thanks a lot! Sadly, shipping deal is not available for...
