Unless I'm incredibly mistaken (which is possible--I don't actually *own* a new Clié), there should be an option in the launcher's menu that lets you switch to 'standard view'.

Re: Nvidia vs. Matrox? That is an easy choice!

Ya, I can remember that was around the time I was buying my first "3d accelerator." I was choosing between the g200 and the voodoo banshee. Good thing I waited for the reviews. Banshee all the way after that. Anyone remember those? Pretty good boards besides their short life. Bah. My Rendition Veri...

KDE isn't terrible -- it's just kind of heavy and buggy and slow. ... Funny, I thought that's what people generally meant when talking about how 'horrible' KDE is. If you're hardcore, use TVTWM. secure, light, fast. Blackbox is a little more featured and FVWM2 is lightweight while being full-featur...

It looks like they mean OS X server rather than the sort of X server you're talking about, Steel, but I could be wrong. (yay for confusing naming schemes!)

So this will allow only this IP address to connect to the X Server and no one else? It should, yes. As for your second question: is the 'server' (i.e., the system actually running the X clients and hosting the users' files) on the same network as the rest of the school's computers? If so, it seems ...

Videolan is very close to what I want but with no easy way to broadcast TV from a tuner. Since Videolan only seems to broadcast MPEG streams, it seems that you would need to have the system with the tuner do MPEG encoding in realtime and feed that to the Videolan server. I'm not sure how difficult ...

I'm curious if anyone here has actually flipped open a laptop and actually taken notes in a lecture style or classroom style environment. I'm sure it's been done countless times. But, I'm wondering if anyone here has actually cracked open the laptop and let their fingers fly, almost silently (loud ...

Keep in mind that: A) Laptop keyboards suck . Latptop touchpads suck . Eh. I have fairly large hands, but I managed to survive using a laptop as my primary computer for three years. My typing speed is only slightly slower on my current laptop's keyboard than on my desktop's buckling-spring IBM keyb...

If you have to have only one computer, I'd say to go with the laptop. It's nice to be able to clear off your desk merely by moving your laptop (in my experience, desks in dorm rooms are usually painfully small, and sticking a 17-19" CRT on them tends to make them nearly useless for anything else...)...

I voted yes, but, truthfully, I can't see myself buying any of the three. Most of the things that I've run on a 'handheld' in the past (in this case an NEC MobilePro 700, which should explain the quotes around handheld) have been text-oriented; specifically, telnet/SSH clients, JWPce, and so on. I agree, more or less, though I have to add that multiplayer could be fun. I will point out that it's fun to play around with various powers (area-effect disrupt object with spawn-on-impact 3 is fun); the default characters don't really explore all of the available power types.
