Z370 and older CPUs

I know that 8th gen intel processors need the 3 series chipsets. But will a 6th gen work in a Z370 board? I haven't seen anything about that.

Disappointed with 2016 15" MBP

I posted this over at Macrumors.com, but I wanted to share with you guys.  Here's the original at MacRumors. Let me preface by saying this that I've owned 2 PowerBooks and 2 MacBook Pros. My current machine is a maxed out 2013 MPB 15". I ordered my new MacBook Pro 15" a couple of weeks ago...

Re: Apple in 2016: The Six Colors report card

I just ordered a fairly maxed out MacBook Pro 15.  I wasn't going to get one until later, but Kaby Lake was such a disappointment, I figured there was no point in waiting.  Graphics are a bit lame, even with the 460, but I've seen some videos showing decent performance in many modern games.  Looks l...

New Z170 Motherboard

I'm going to be jumping on the Z170 train.  I'm not that far behind, but I'm going to take the old computer and make it into a media PC.  This one will be for gaming. I need an ATX board and I do like a lot of bells and whistles.  I usually go with higher end motherboards and have almost always gone...

Re: Mice

Can I add to this? Most mice these days are slight variations on the same theme. Two buttons with a middle scroll/button combination. There may be a million other buttons on the mouse, but the basic layout is that you rest your index and middle finger on the two buttons and move to the other buttons...

Windows 10 and UEFI

With Windows 8/8.1, to take full advantage of a UEFI machine, you had to do a customized UEFI installation.

Is that still a necessity for Windows 10 or does it install UEFI compatibility automatically?

"Repurposing" external hard drives

I have a diskless NAS on order (LaCie 5Big Pro) and I need to put some drives in it. At first, I thought I figured that I would have to buy some new ones, but then I realized that I have 4 3tb drives already. They just happen to be in USB 3 enclosures. Has anyone cracked open these external drives, ...

Regarding Macs:

I would suggest exFAT rather than FAT32 for external drives. FAT32 has a file size limit of 4GB, which can become an issue. The only real drawback is that it is not Linux compatible.

Re: High-End Computer Speakers

I don't know why Creative does this, since my old nForce based motherboard years ago could take any 5.1 signal and decode it correctly through optical, but that's the way Creative does it. You need any soundcard/chipset that has either Dolby Digital Live or DTS-Connect support, preferably the latte...

Re: High-End Computer Speakers

I've pretty much given up on speakers for my PC. I had an old set of Bose (yes, they are as bad as everyone says) set up in a 5.1 hooked up to a receiver through analog 5.1 ports. I use a Creative X-Fi card, which does the job and is low noise. Problem was that my receiver died and they do not make ...

OP is interested in IPS monitor. There is no point of comparing TV with TN panel which is used for the "most monitors".

That TV is IPS, read more closely.

Most TVs have a "Game" mode that cuts out all the processing and makes it lag free.

I have the Deluxe version of that board and had the same problem. Indicator code on little motherboard LED showed it to be no installed memory. Took it out, reseated it, and it worked fine.

I don't like the new memory seats. The old ones seemed to be much better.

I haven't bought a hard drive there in a couple of years. Best Buy usually has either Seagate or Western Digital on sale on alternate weekends, so I buy then and beat NewEgg's prices.

Another good place for storage is BHPhotoVideo.com

Re: Everything That's Wrong With Movies Today

They missed one: Comedies that don't have a script. The worst offender in this genre is Todd Phillips. He seems to get a bunch of actors together, comes up with a scene, then tells the actors to improvise. Sometimes it works, sometimes it's horrible. Every Will Ferrell movie is like this, where they...

I have both a PS3 and an XBox 360. I prefer the 360's controller and XBox live beats PS3 Network hands down. But I have to say, in the past few years, I have begun enjoying the PS3 more and more. Mostly because of the games. Uncharted 1&2 (espectially 2) are the best adventure games ever made on...

I stick mostly with beer. Over the years, I have developed a taste for Saison beers. The best is Saison DuPont. Ommegang makes a great one too, I would put it second. There are others that are all fine examples, many of which are American, but those are the absolute best. I also enjoy Chimay Rouge q...

For $200 you're not going to assemble a better system than the Klipsche 2.1s. Love mine, but they seem to have a problem with the control module crapping out after a while. I have to jiggle the volume knob a bit to make sure both channels are playing. The sound quality is awesome from such a small ...
