Re: TR BBQ XV 6/23/18 - Official Thread

Yeah, folks are welcome on Friday night, it'll just be the same informal event as normal. BTW, the count on the bedrooms in the front cottage is as follows. There are three rooms with twin beds and one room with bunk beds. All of them are upstairs. zgirl gets one on Friday for sure. The Frobozzes ha...

Re: 'Gipsy Danger' Workstation

We can and do run multiple instances of SolidWorks, even though it complains about it's journal file/auto recovery not being able to work. However, in this case, running multiple instances of SolidWorks is less common than running multiple instances of the dedicated translation software.

I ran the rendering face-off I mentioned in the article real quick this morning... Re: 'Gipsy Danger' Workstation

For anyone following along. I queued up just 4 files for conversion just to get a real utilization screenshot from Task Manager. This is actually a great example, you can see memory usage already approaching 64GB, and CPU usage of four cores constantly with the occasional spike as other cores are us...

It was seriously freaky to handle/install a full-size single slot video card. I can't remember the last time that happened, maybe a 7600GT?

'Gipsy Danger' Workstation

Generally speaking, the PCs I deal with at work are pretty uninspiring. Don't get me wrong, I pick out quality stuff, but they're off-the-shelf Elitebooks/Zbooks or NUCs 99% of the time. Gone are the days when I used to build most of the PCs that folks in the office/plant use. Occasionally though, w...

Here's a gallery of 360 photos from my Theta S. Quality isn't as nice, and Google's handling of 360 photos could use some work, but it's better than nothing and I'm too lazy upload each one individually to the Theta viewer. Personally, I think they look a lot better when viewed zoomed out, and at ab...

As someone who's purchased 20" long titanium ultrasonic welding horns, I can only shudder at the thought of the cost of those fins... I finally pulled the trigger on trying to see one of these launches in person (I've regretted missing the last shuttle launch ever since). My nephew and I are bo...

Re: Into the Breach (from FTL creators)

I played it a bit last night as well. You can tell right from the beginning that it's very solid. I've read about it described as a puzzle game, or like chess, and those are fair comparisons, if a little simplistic. I haven't played it enough to be qualified to write a lot more, even though I have o...

I've mentioned being stoked for it a couple times in Shortbread. Day one purchase, hope to find time to play it tonight, probably on the TV so nephews can watch/participate. We watched Pacific Rim over the weekend to prepare.

Re: TR BBQ XV - Official Thread

Looking like one of the June dates is the most likely, I should be able to confirm the date within a week or so. If we do the 6/23 date, we'd probably be in the front cottage instead of the back cottage, which could be a nice change of pace for those that come early/stay late. It's been a long time ...

Re: What cricket products are you eating?

I've baked bread with cricket flour, it was good. I've also tried some cricket bars that were good. I ordered some cricket chips, but didn't eat them because the packaging was damaged.

I'll try more, but the biggest thing stopping me is price and variety. The logic is sound and appealing.
