TR BBQ XVI - Official Thread

Let's get this out of the way first, at this point in time, every TR BBQ could be the last one I host on Lake Michigan. Beyond that, I can't speak for alternative plans, so every TR BBQ could be the last one, period. I just don't know. So, make sure you attend this year if coming to a TR BBQ is on y...

Super stoked. Also, so weird to see it without the normal F9 fairing.

Re: Fractals revisited

Anyone ever play with Quat back in the day? I have no idea where I found it back then, but I used to render so many fractals with it back in the late 90s. This is all I could find in my archives, though. http://public.dr_fish.speedymail.org/techreport/quat.jpg I must have thought these coordinates y...

Re: Fractals revisited

Nice! Personally, I'd render/upload at 4K, you're doing the work anyway if you're doing 4x SSAA at 1080p. Watching the 4K video in a small window may yield better image quality for viewers without having to render at 8K.

Also, I would cut out the pauses, let it flow.

Re: Almost 20 years

Haha, hey now, I'm not talking about my own kids. My 19 month old already skips ads on YouTube, she's the only one I'm fully "in control" of. My moto for her has been "Minecraft by two, redstone by three." We'll see how it goes. That is exceptional. At 19 months we were more con...

I still say u cheated, Fishy boy! True story: I just this year threw out the letter from the president of my company where I had it in writing that it was all good for me to fold on the company PCs. Office got rearranged and I tossed 95% of the crap I'd accumulated since that era. I think I peaked ...

Re: Almost 20 years

I'm actually surprised by the number of kids roughly 16-22 who suddenly want to get into PC gaming. Not sure what the driving force is for this, but it's good to see I suppose. Appetite whetted by Minecraft? You could probably make an argument for original Java Minecraft being a factor, heh. What I...

Shameless Litter-Robot self-promotion

When I posted my Litter-Robot review , Jeff/Adam were gracious enough to allow me to use my own personal referral link . Since then, two people have used my link to purchase Litter-Robots and, by doing so, have hooked up the TR BBQ fund/my PayPal account with $50. Now that the second commission has ...

Re: Looking for new TR System Guide

It's pretty straightforward, and already public knowledge, but here's a reminder. The system guides have historically been sponsored by NewEgg, even though what was put in them was 100% up to the TR staff. This was the last one of that nature . No sponsorship = fewer updates. It's just that simple. ...

Yeah, came here to say the same thing. I tuned in just a few minutes late to see it live, and I didn't have audio on, so I had no idea about the water landing until I saw the comments over on Ars. Bummer, but at least they will learn from this.

A couple of my users have gotten these, snuck through Office 365. Both of them had legit old passwords. One of my users in particular was legit freaked out by it, but I was so decisively dismissive that I think they felt better quickly. I just told them to make sure they aren't using that password a...

For that kind of hardware, I think a new monitor is a must have--it would kick the crap out of a 3440X1440 (which is what I have with a GTX 1080 in a laptop). FWIW, the deals I've seen this year have been great. What games are gonna get the Turing test? Heh, they may be true for games made by real ...
