I don't know how wedded you are to that particular Windows install, but (IMO) you're at the Ripley point to which all Windows installs eventually degrade.

While listening to SXM 20 (all Brooce, all the time) on the way home from work tonight, I had a sudden epiphany. I now know why he's still at it. It's been 43 years since Born to Run and he's still trying to write something that equals, let alone surpasses, Thunder Road . The now non-canon Dune Ency...

I'm not sure what the red lever/knob on the right side does That's an ancient carbon tetrachloride extinguisher. The red knob is the air valve to repressurise the unit after discharge and refill with carbon tet. Just looking at the price of well-preserved examples on FleaBay turning it into a case,...

Do brushless motors act as generators when the output shaft (i.e. the fan) is spun externally? Interesting thought. Yes, I believe a DC computer fan motor would, since the rotor uses permanent magnets. Spin it fast enough, and it is certainly plausible that you could shove enough current the wrong ...

I just hope that the barrier island my friend's beach house sits on is still there after this. Storm surge predictions alone tell me the house won't be there next week. And yes, he's far far away from this.

Re: 2018 Hurricane Season

The new track cited in that Ars article bodes VERY poorly for the NC coast. If the storm heads due west as newly predicted and the eye stays offshore, anything to the north of the eye will have 24+ hours of hurricane-force winds driving storm surge directly on-shore. The barrier islands between Wilm...

Absolutely gutted that Kimi did not win. DRS has made passing too easy. It was supposed to equalize two cars; now the trailing car always has the clear advantage. Did you even watch the race? DRS had nothing to do with it. Ferrari had a faster car even when DRS was factored in. Did you watch Spa an...

Re: What angle grinder wattage for marble work?

For what it's worth, the marble work will be more sculpting tiles / blocks than outright cutting them. Well, the 720 appears to have more of the disc surface exposed (assuming she doesn't just remove the shield), which may come in handy in sculpting/shaping uses. The 720 would also (handwave here) ...
