The financial regulatory world is simply littered with SMEs, though in our world it's pronounced "smee" just like Hook's first mate, not "shmi" like Anakin's mother.

Simmons' Hyperion Cantos and Ilium/Olympos are mainstays in my library, as is Vernor Vinge's Zones of Thought series.

If you like your sci-fi harder, he may not have won a Hugo, but Alastair Reynolds Revelation Space universe is a good one.

How do I put the pix on here? You can't put it on directly. You'll need to find an online place to store it, then use the Img tags to link to its location. Basic Dropbox accounts are free, so that's always a good choice. Oh, and try fixing an aluminum sailboat mast that hit a drawbridge. I didn't c...

Well, my main point was to add a pre-boot passcode to prevent access to Windows instead of having a USB key attached to the computer at all times I've told this before, but let's go back into Federal Agency X folklore. Agency X issues me a laptop so that I can perform duties and securely upload the...

As much as it pains me to recommend against using duct tape you'll have better results using something like this stuff from 3M. Stick (heh) with EB Green. Good friend of mine tended the teakettle on a 637-class boat and EB Green was the default answer to most casualties. https://www.amazon.com/Auth...

The whole point of TPM/Bitlocker is to prevent old-school "enthusiasts" like me from using certain Linux-based live CD distros to directly edit the security files and either elevate privilege or to create a new user with admin privilege.

Perfect victims on which to learn how to solder. Plenty of cheap kits including solder-suckers on Amazon (hint, avoid silver solder, go with the 63/37 eutectic). If the fix works, turn 'em into recipe displays in the kitchen or some other thankless task like security cam monitor.
