Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Well, that was disappointing. Elvis Costello has turned into his own lounge cover band. Tempos at 75% and songs brought down at least one step and maybe two steps. 45 minutes in people were folding up their chairs (outdoor lawn show) and heading out. Wife (the real EC fan in the house) called it at ...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Filmstrips were not motion video; they were more like a pre-recorded PowerPoint presentation, implemented with 1960s-era tech. So DuKane can sue Microsoft for patent infringement? That connection simply never occurred to me until your post. Filmstrips WERE slow-motion PowerPoint. I will admit to mi...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

I also grew up in the era when filmstrip projectors were commonly used in elementary schools. The company that made them is located in the Chicago area, and is still around. When I interviewed there back in the 1990s they had a display case in the lobby with a gold-plated filmstrip projector in it....

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

There is a chance that those days will mark the crowning achievement of mankind for all time and that we'll be unable to ever surpass it. I remain reasonably optimistic and hopeful that Elon Musk or another entrepreneur will belie that statement. Bob knows no gov't-funded effort will ever get there...

48 years ago today and at roughly this hour I was but a wee lad in footy pajamas watching a blurry B&W TV image of Neil Armstrong bunny-hopping down the ladder of Eagle. If you had told me then that the whole thing would be over by 1972 I simply would not have believed you.

Then you'll be pleased to know Windows actually does it almost exactly the same way you do. It speeds imaging backups of the OS drive and makes data backups a simple drag/drop af...

Don't use libraries or any of the "special" folders. I put things where I want them, not where Windows wants them. It's a holdover from the MS-DOS days.

Not so much what I'm listening to now, but what I shall be listening to this coming Sunday (7/23) evening. Elvis Costello is bringing his band (the Imposters, which includes some members of the Attractions) to an outdoor show here at home. EC is the wife's favorite artist. Just read a fluffer articl...

Not sure Vermont is some kind of outlier here. My personal driving experience covers the Eastern Seaboard to the NC/SC border and west to the BBQ, as well as Phoenix to Bisbee AZ (still haven't driven across the Mississippi). Every time I've been on a surface street 90%+ pulled over and, on Interst...

Yeah, in Illinois a full stop is not required, but "may be necessary" to allow the emergency vehicle to safely pass. In this case, the eventual court ruling was that no lights/siren meant "not an emergency vehicle", which gave rise both to City liability for the resultant injuri...

I'd be pretty happy to just crush the drives...glass platters simply don't leave much when they shatter. :) It's why drilling is so easy. They're tempered glass, so the first crack and the whole thing shatters. Besides, a coil that can properly degauss modern hard drives is either part of your dail...
