Damn, I need me a new SLR. Given what I want (excellent low-light AF, fast glass, and decent high-ISO image quality) it'll be spendy.

April 23. Birth [/handwave] and death day of Shakespeare, as well as death day of Miguel de Cervantes. There's megatons of literary history and quality packed into this day.

Well, all you needed to do to fix that was tighten the nut that holds the head on the pipe. Five seconds with a pair of channel-locks if you don't care what the nut looks like when you're done (I don't).

Finished the last 3 episodes of the Hexagonal Phase of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy today, courtesy of BBC Radio 4 and a slow day in the office. As someone who self-identifies with Arthur Dent, I was heartened by the final end of the entire saga (though they needed a better voice for Marvin;...

OK, another session of "what is it"? This object is about 5 miles from my house. It's clearly a helicopter, my challenge is for someone to tell me make/model. I took the liberty of erasing the non-country part of the tailcode to make Googling more difficult. https://www.dropbox.com/s/kwtjj...

The Yes Album I love this album. In spite of the fact that Wakeman wasn't on board yet, this is where it all started to come together. IMO along with Fragile , Close to the Edge , and Relayer , it is an absolutely essential Yes album. Don't forget TFTO [/inside joke]. Joking aside, TYA is where the...

As a kid in rural VT, our tiny cable network had WPIX-11 out of NYC, so it was a constant diet of Yankees games for me listening to Phil Rizzuto and Bill White. I did manage to see Hank Aaron hit #715 on live TV, I of course watched The Miracle On Ice, and will never forget the night Reggie became M...

Are there any cases that have ducted intakes for the GPU and/or CPU? Back in the day I had modded an 80mm fan mount in the window to duct for the intake on the blower-style cooler for the GPU. That gave it fresh air and exhausted most of the heat directly out of the case. Not any more, or at least ...

Looking at the data I could easily do Anchorage year-round. The record lows aren't too far below what I'm used to here in VT and it doesn't get as hot. Florida? I don't do humidity. Arizona? I'd have to spend a summer at Dad's place in Bisbee (elevation 5,500') to see if "dry heat" is bear...
