What's the latest with Intel Thunderbolt 3 integration?

Back in 2017, Intel announced plans to drop Thunderbolt 3 royalties and add CPU Integration. Whatever became of that initiative? Whenever I try to pull up new information, I just get references to the 2017 announcement. Has intel set this aside while combating Zen, Epyc, etc?

What is twice the performance of GeForce GTX 750 Ti

Ok.  I haven't been keeping with video cards in years.  Currently I've got an NVIDIA GeForce 750 Ti.  What current cards from both AMD and Nvidia would be the equivalent of this.  And what would be twice as powerful?    Rough estimates are fine.  And thanks!

Anybody familiar with CompuLab fanless systems?

http://airtop-pc.com/airtop/natural-airflow-technology/

What really got my attention was they have a gaming system variant with an i7 and a GTX 950. Cant recall seeing some much power within such a little space.

So how much improvement does PCIe SSDs bring to table?

I can remember with great fondness my jump from mechanical HDD to a "run of the mill" Crucial SSD. What kind of real world improvement should one expect for going with PCIe SSDs? Or is it too early to tell because the ecosystem is still in its infancy?

Virtual Reality Musings...

Has anyone here got to try out the Vive, Rift, and Morpheus? If so, is there a clearly superior system? An obvious winner? Or will we be like we are with computer graphics: Nvidia, AMD, and Intel. I used to think that Rift was so far ahead of anyone else, that it was really the only game in town. Bu...

If Skylake performance is less than impressive....

Doesn't this mean the Intel has had a lackluster tick and tock? Could this be an indicator of a major shift in the semiconductor industry: have we reached a point of diminishing returns?

I hope not. Just trying to prepare myself for the worst.

Re: What is wrong with the Fury X?

It's just that AMD made a turbocharged 4.0L V8 using Unobtainium and we expected it to blow Nvidia's 3.5L V6 with iron block and heads out of the water but instead we see it couldn't even catch it in most cases and the turbo lag somewhat ruins the fun. I don't think that's quite the analogy. I thin...

If Skylake is underwhelming...

does this mean that CPU serial processing is pretty much as good as it's going to get?

I specifically say "serial" because I realize that there is still room for advancement via multi-cores and GPU like parallel processing.

Isn't this somewhat similar to the Betamax and VHS format wars of the 1970s and 1980s? If I was a monitor manufacturer, I would be scared as hell to be locked into a proprietary NVIDIA solution.

Wasn't the big deal with Broadwell supposed to be power saving? Tell me if I'm wrong but don't laptop Broadwells perform not much better in battery life. About the only cool think that comes to mind with Broadwell are fanless systems. And here the performance really suffers. Will 4 cores redeem Broa...

Is it really a bad idea to run Vista on an SSD?

Is it really a bad idea to run Vista on an SSD, or is it just not "ideal". I've got an old Vista system (not my main system by any means) and an 128GB SSD lying around and I'm thinking to myself, why transfer the C: HDD over to the SSD.

Is this a bag of hurt?

Low-profile (half height) video cards able to play PS2

I've got an free Low-profile (half height) Core 2 6850 HP desktop. Are there any Low-profile (half height) video cards that are able to play PlanetSide2 at reasonable framerates at 1680x1050? Guess I should also ask if the CPU is adequate as well?

Re: What modern day CPU is closest to Intel Core2 Duo E6850

Are you just wanting to know for comparison's sake, to see how far processors have come in the past couple of years? I work at a public library and we upgraded all our PCs. So I've got to get rid of about 100 HP 7800s with this CPU. Might give them to charity or sell them to the public for a nomina...

$407 Crucial or $440 Samsung

I just now looked on Amazon for SDD prices. I haven't really been following things very closely, but was surprised at how cheap Crucial's 256GBs were going for. So clicked on 512 and finally 1 Terabyte. Wow, 1 Terabyte for $407 with free shipping! So I thought than Samsung's 840 line would be much m...

In the most recent system's builder guide it says, The OEM versions are the best deals. They cost less than retail copies, and Microsoft's Personal Use License allows for them to be used on home-built PCs and to be transferred to a new machine after an upgrade. when I clicked on the link provided: h...

How "good" is Intel Graphics? A thought experiment

Just hypothetically thinking here; but if Intel's IGP technology, the IRIS Pro 5200, were spun off and scaled to size of a typical AMD or NVIDIA gpu, would it be competitive with them?
