Re: Kempner Rice Diet

This is making the false assumption that adipose fat is caused from consumption of dietary fat. Most body fat is created from an insulin response to simple carbohydrates, in which the simple carbohydrates are converted to body fat by this response. Dietary fat does not cause insulin spikes, so cons...

Re: Intel Performance Maximizer

Why? Turbo-clocking and MCE makes arm-chair overclocking pointless. The die-hard crowd always want to personally fine-tune their settings. It seems like the "service plan" side-pitch is just a cash-grab attempt for people who don't know any better. There is a wealth of freely available en...

Re: Intel Performance Maximizer

Just so happens that I built a 9600K-based rig last week. I started messing with it last night, and I'm writing about my experiences. However since I have other commitments and TR isn't my day job, it may take a few days before it goes up. TR did not get early access, so there was no chance of havin...

Blinkenlights

I saw a nice-looking RGB system in Best Buy last week, and I just had to do it for myself. The case is a Cooler Master MB530P. Using the built-in controller for the three front fans and some daisy-chained fans for the two on the CPU cooler and rear exhaust. The graphics card syncs to the motherboard...

For your system from the OP, 550W is plenty. The GPU + CPU are going to draw roughly half of that at their heaviest.

Either is probably find for most builds. Both brands are reputable. On the low end, I think Seasonic has a better reputation, though. And how much (if anything) is that modular cabling worth to you? The CX550 doesn't have it. Neither would an S12II as opposed to the M12II you mentioned, and it might...

Mine were impacted and still under the surface of the gum when they were removed, so I got knocked out at like 7:30 AM the Friday before Thanksgiving in 2000, and I basically just slept the rest of the day. Put a movie in, wake up during the ending credits, rewind the tape (HA!) and repeat.

Any word on the APU variant? The 3600g was rumored. Maybe it's later in the year? My wife's, A10 is still holding pretty good for desktop use, but stupid javascript-laden websites are causing it to hitch more frequently than I like. APUs are just Raven Ridge refreshes. https://www.anandtech.com/sho...

Asia Carerra is her adult film name. The Carerra was based off of a time when Tia Carrere was fairly popular (both Wayne's World and Kat in the PC Game "Critical Path", among other things). She was a gamer and PC enthusiast as well, thus her ties to ]H[ardOCP. So it's the same person? The...

I just undervolted a 1660 Ti for the first time last night. It's a laptop model, so I don't know how binned those things are. Anyway, I got it from 1.050v for 1.8 GHz down to 0.925 for the same max speed. No overclocking, just a more aggressive ramp up to the same max at a lower voltage. Not sure ab...

On my desktop (which does not have Wi-Fi), Chrome routinely puts me in Urbana, IL, which is probably inferred from the hostname. Urbana is in the name, but my ISP is headquartered in Peoria. On my wife's Chromebook, it knows the correct city. My guess is that it's using some Wi-Fi location if the de...

Re: Mobo/Processor switch?

That A4 only has one module. It's effectively a single hyper threaded core (except for integer math, where it's a little better). No way do I remove the Phenom. Odds are good that despite the clock speed advantage, the A4 is probably slower per-thread than the Phenom, with fewer threads to boot.
