Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Fogo de Chao is not very far at all. I'm at the downtown Marriott. Not to be confused with the JW Marriott which is next door. That was some confusing stuff when I rolled into town.

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

I am in Indianapolis for a conference, and there are two things that I'd never seen before: 1.) First of all, downtown smells like raw sewage. And it apparently has for several years, at least . My group walked into a restaurant and ended up leaving because it was inside, too. Went to another place ...

Re: Retro console gaming

Here's something weird: a guy created an app to play Atari 2600 ROMs from QR codes. The ROM data is encoded in a QR code, and then the code is read by an app on a Raspberry Pi and converted to a ROM for use with an emulator.

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

I return something to Amazon maybe once a year for a refund. I don't chalk it up to anything other than bad luck. In this case it was a purchase from a third party with Amazon fulfillment. So lots of moving parts. No biggie. I took a shot on replacing my launch-era Xbox 360 (the one that was suppose...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Yeah, replacements always arrive quickly. On certain things, I've even been told not to worry about return shipping because it was (for instance) a defective Molex to 3-pin fan adapter. Return shipping probably costs more than the item is worth. It's the things that just don't live up to expectation...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

I very very rarely ever return stuff but when I do, I pretty much always have to contact Amazon chat in order to get them to process the refund. Been waiting since they received the package on 9/5, I figure 10 days is good enough to wait before asking. :-/

Re: Suggest Games with 4K graphics

I don't follow the question. (Not this thread specifically, the question just seems to come up a lot.) Just about anything will look better if you throw more pixels at it, and just about nothing actually needs those pixels for anything. There mostly aren't big technical limitations related to 4K at...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

In unrelated news, we are currently sitting in the ER. Our 3YO tried to cut the top of her ear off by falling out of a chair and landing on a paint can lip. It was hard enough that it severed the top 1” or so of the ear in Twain, about 2” long. Waiting to make an appointment with a plastic surgeon ...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

Very, very heated about it today so just wanted to post something about it. Google's (and less so Apple's) decision to remove the headphone jack from their Pixel line of phones last year is so incredibly infuriating, and the lack of support and ecosystem they've developed for the existing hole they...

Re: Your Favorite Game

Mine would have to be the Assassin's Creed series. I know, they're usually a hit and miss, but the recent Origins was good, in my opinion. Black Flag was a love letter to pirate ninja assassins. I love that game with my whole body. I recently started playing Shining Force II. That stretches the def...

If you want your kids to put on weight, give them lots of carbs along with the fats. That worked for me. In that same vein, I use almost no fat these days. Whatever is in the (rather lean) meat we consume and whatever happens to be in the bread I eat. My eggs at breakfast are Egg Beaters (or g...

Re: DYMT: Imi's Legacy

These days the only other exposure average Americans have to Roman numerals is the Super Bowl numbering. When I was in school, a fairly standard programming exercise was to take an integer and print it out as roman numerals! We had to do that for any integer 0 to 9,999 in the first semester Java cl...

Well, the X is pronounced 10, but I do kinda enjoy the fact that most people will be trying to buy an iPhone Excess or iPhone Excess Max. Right, mostly commenting on the "Max." Also, yeah, I have personally witnessed many say "iPhone Ecks." Ugh. It's Apple's fault anyway. The on...

Re: Standing desks?

My height is a major problem looking at standing desks though, especially combined with the cost. Most standing desks would probably be even worse for my posture than sitting because their maximum heights are just too low. Having my neck cranked down and wrists at a sharp angle all day doesn't real...

Van Halen - 1984

One of the best rock albums ever made. Eddie plays the guitar like it's a piano. Probably because he was a pianist growing up.

Anybody play Human Fall Flat? Holy crap this game is weird. It's like QWOP meets an obstacle course/puzzle game/escape room. It's slowly-paced insanity. My daughter got it on her Switch on sale for $8, and I've been playing it tonight.

Not exactly retro, but the last Streets of Rage to come out was like 20-something years ago. But now Streets of Rage 4 has been announced. Dot Emu will publish the Lizardcube production. Lizardcube made a really excellent Monster World remaster, but this is apparently an all-new entry into the serie...

If I buy this, and it's as good as you guys say, then I'm sure they'll probably be doing welfare checks on me in a couple weeks, I won't cook my own food until after Thanksgiving, it'll be Christmas before I do laundry, and I won't leave the house until St. Patrick's Day. Re: Poissibly Windows 10's most intuitive feature?

(btw the issue mentioned earlier about this being broken in Excel doesn't seem to be the case for me; it works fine). Excel accepts mouse wheel input if it is the focused application, has for a long time. Where it shows up for me is if Excel is not focused, it won't respond to the passive cursor sh...

Re: Poissibly Windows 10's most intuitive feature?

I don't want the scroll wheel taking focus, the benefit of the passive method is you can scroll data in one window while still typing or reviewing data in the focused window. Same. I like comparing what's in Excel with what I see in a browser window (for example) and make changes in the Excel docum...

Re: Years in the making, new I7 Build

Broadwell was the last time a CPU was hard to get ahold of, IIRC. The i7-5775C and i5-5675C were hard to get, but they were (speculation incoming) mostly built because Apple wanted them so they could go into an iMac with integrated graphics.
