Re: I need recommendation on vpn

I use wireguard on azirevpn for free. I'm not sure of the windows support just yet. https://www.azirevpn.com/blog/2017-11-06/wireguard-free Works OK for me, and wireguard is nice. Even Linus Torvalds likes it. ;-) https://lists.openwall.net/netdev/2018/08/02/124 Can I just once again state my love f...

I agree that a pair of studio monitors are your best bet.

they've been running various %20 off coupons for several weeks, so that brings it to $203 and change.

Re: Good renaissance music recordings

There was a German group Vox Luminis, that did an outstanding recording of Musicalische Exequien by Heinrich Schütz. Being that it's from the 17th century, I suppose it's Baroque ranter than Renaissance. You can definitely hear the echos of Renaissance syle in it though.

Re: my "new" 12 core opteron server

This particular PCB rev of the board only works with opteron 4100 procs, and the 4184 is as high as they ever went. Still, the MB only cost me ~$130 on ebay, and the mem was a carry-over from my previous phenom x3 server.

my "new" 12 core opteron server

I built out my new 12 core server last night from an ASUS KCMA-D8 I found on ebay and a pair of opterons that I found on a shelf at work. http://s3.postimg.org/b3wiwken3/folding_opterons.jpg Dunno how long I'll keep it folding, but I wanted to give it a stress test to bake in the thermal compound. Re: HTTP/general logging proxy software for Windows?

Can anyone suggest a simple logging proxy for at least HTTP, maybe DNS too, on Windows? Nothing fancy or complex, I mainly want to see requests, and maybe responses. Simple, easy proxy? You want Polipo. There's a windows version in the download section of the propject website . Of course, you can j...

Re: Need advice on NUCs

I have a Celeron 847 1.1GHz NUC running openelec, and I've never had any MKV video use more than 25% CPU. You should be fine with whatever. I'd also, humbly, suggest that you reevaluate whether a 2.5 bay is a true necessity. My NUC has a cheap 32gb mSATA drive in it that's got like 28 GB free. It's ...

Re: My New Amazon Fire TV Stick - I Don't Need an HTPC!

Well, there's your use case for an HTPC. I want to be able to stream my 1080p MKV across my gigabit network from my server. Maybe there's a dongle that'll do that, but my cheepo celeron NUC running OpenElec does just fine for me.

If you're feeling fancy, you can always install a nagios instance on a server. I use omd here at work. It has a check_http function that can graphs out your response times and the response size.

ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Socket LGA 1155 Z77 ATX Intel $104.99 -$20 processor bundle discount = $84.99
