Re: Finally decided to upgrade my 7 year old video card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824025112 -it has free-sync (for the RX480), it's larger, its IPS, and its relatively cheap for the size of the monitor. (..the larger wide-aspect monitor makes a difference with gaming.) I almost pulled the trigger a few months ago to get 2 of ...

Re: Finally decided to upgrade my 7 year old video card

I see, and TBH, I don't see my self using my PC for 4K gaming, I'll leave that for the PS4 and Xbox One. I will be getting a 4K monitor when they come down in price a bit, but it's not on my plate yet.

Finally decided to upgrade my 7 year old video card

Currently I have this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102841 It's a card I got back in 2009 when I first built my computer. Over the years I've stayed away from the "video card chase" as I call it where people are constantly upgrading to the latest technology each...

Re: WD Green vs. Black

UPDATE: After more than a year, I finally ordered one! Got a WD 6TB Green made in October of 2014. I am a bit concerned as to why Newegg still had a 9 month old hard drive in stock, but then again it was on sale. Anyways, I am more concerned about the "head-parking" that Greens are notorio...

WD Green vs. Black

Looking to get a new hard drive to act mainly as a back up for my 3 drives I have now. I have a WD Blue 320GB and 2 WD Black 1TB. Next month they hit their 5 year birthday, and they just pasted 40,000 hours of operation. I know hard drives don't last forever, so I was looking at the WD Green since i...

Re: Recommend me a SSD

*Deal alert* Intel 335 240GB $175 with promo code EMCYTZT2725, today (1/2) only. After seeing this and reading a few benchmarks and comparisons, I'm going to run with the Intel (it's on sale, and $30 saved could buy me a nice meal or some beer!) From what I saw in the TR review, the 335 is right th...

Re: Recommend me a SSD

I hate to bump an old post, but this thread is what I've been asking myself for the past week. I've been torn between the Samsung 840 Pro (which after reading TR's review, seems likely what I'm going to order) and the Corsair Neutron GTX or the Corsair GS. Originally, I wanted to go with Corsair bec...

Re: Critique my build, please.

I'd say have a look at the HX series PSU from Corsair, same as the TX, just that the HX is modular and won't cause a jumble of cables at the bottom of your rig like I did to mine :-? 750W should work with a crossfire system, but I'd say for $20 more you can get the 850W version and be more sure that...

Re: Building a system for a friend

Alright, I've almost got it finalized. CPU, Mobo, Case, PSU, HDD, and CD/DVD drive are about 90% final. Here is what I have so far: Link Going with the Spinpoint F3, I found a bundle with an OCZ PSU that's modular and a bit lower in price. With that, I've have to buy the case separate, but in the en...

Re: Building a system for a friend

Found a bundle for the case that has an Antec Earthwatts 750W . Problem is, it's not modular. Would that be an issue in the case? I know with my Corsair 850W in my HAF 932 all the cables are just bunched up at the bottom. They are not really a big issue, but I figure they are at least blocking some ...

Building a system for a friend

Been a little over a year now since I built my own computer, and I'm loving it. Loving it so much that my good friend is wanting one too. Mainly to play FF:XIV and other computer games. In short, he needs a good gaming rig and has tasked me with building it. Budget is at $850 ~ 900 give or take. I w...

Re: X-Fi Platinum with front I/O

Yeah, the Realtek would do just fine for the optical out, but I also need an optical in for my Xbox 360. And now that you mention it, I was thinking about looking at different cards from other companies. A little background story: I have an old Audigy 2 that was in my first computer about 7 years ag...

X-Fi Platinum with front I/O

I'm looking to finally buy one after a year of using the Realtek HD that came with my Mobo. Nothing bad about the Realtek, it's done all that I've needed over the year. Thing is, I just got a pair of the "Creative Fatal1ty Professional Series Gaming Headset MKII" off Newegg's Shell Shocker...

OC'ing i7 920 with V8 or V10

So its getting close to Christmas and I'm going to have some extra money to spend and want to get a CPU cooler so I can OC my 920 stock at 2.66GHZ up to around 3.2GHZ, and the fact that it already runs hot enought (high 60's C when under load, 45 C Idle), and I've tried remounting over and over. So ...

Re: Sub $1300 i7 Gaming Rig

Spend $30 - $40 more on the case and you can easily get an Antec 1200 or CM HAF 932 . . . Both are great cases that have loads of space for all components, great air cooling (HAF has 3 230mm fans, 80+ CFM) Just noticed no one touched on those two . . . To me, they are some of the best cases you can ...

He is set on having a standalone video card cause he thinks they perform better than Integrated ones do. IDK, I have a HD4890 cause I play Aion on max settings and do video rendering. If he plays intensive 3D games, then yes, a separate graphics card will perform better. For all other applications,...

Re: AM3 Budget PC

UPDATE: Gonna go with this RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231190 since JustAnEngineer made a good point, but the cheapest RAM sets for 2x2GB are mostly 1600 and not 1333, except the G.SKILL ones. Sorry about the inadequate information . . . he doesn't even know what OCing is so yeah, he won't be wanting to over-clock. He potentially wants to set up a business of some sort so I assume some type of server apps might be needed, IDK, but the quad would be a good thing to have. The PSU, I know it...

Which CPU Cooler for the i7?

Yep, gonna attempt to raise the i7 from stock 2.66GHZ to 3GHZ and I have some questions / "need to know" things. 1. I know I need to upgrade the stock HSF, but what should I look for in a CPU cooler? 1 fan, 2 fans, more heatpipes, high CFM, brand? I was looking at the CM V8 or V10 and a fe...

Re: Is this too hot for i7 920 stock HSF

Well, the first try I thought I followed the instructions issued by Arctic Silver for i7 processors, however, I used too much and when I went to remount, there were ridges in the paste from where it was too thick. So I wiped it all off and started over by adding drop by drop using a plastic card to ...
