Re: Russia gone from 2018 Winter Olympics

I can't help but feel like ousting a country from something like the olympics, which i consider to be a sort of multi national peace meeting, is a major insult. Maybe i have too high of an opinion of it as a world event. I think you're right about the insult, but the evidence that has been played o...

Help me understand, why do you start useless threads like this? Not all people who are into tech as a hobby or day job hate sports. You're projecting your own beliefs and preferences onto others again. Just because you're into computers and hate sports doesn't mean everyone else here feels the same...

You can do it!

You've inspired me to do the same - not quite as far into it as you, but intend to make it!

300 mile range and 2 minute charge?

And the lights of the city dim as you pull that many amps through the charger, I think.

On my principal system, audio is HDMI to a Samsung 4k monitor that serves as my main monitor, and optical out to a Sonos Playbar, with a pair of Gen 2 play 5's that I use for music, a pair of play 1's for surround use and a Sonos sub. Along with a gaming console that plays UHD movies, it gives a wid...

Re: Anyone use Forth, or have experience with it?

Forth? Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time. I did some forth programming roughly 40 years ago and I hated it. The other comments are right in saying it was a lot like programming HP calculators, but one tended to do smaller projects on a calculator. Using RPN on larger projects just ga...

Galaxy Tab A 10" - there are two models, with or without the S Pen.

I bought one for a staffer, and he really likes it.

Does my head go on a stake just for asking such a sacrilegious question? Yes. You might as well admit that you drive a car equipped with an automatic transmission. That's a great analogy! Having driven both at one time or another, I find the ability to shift when I want to, but to not have to shift...

I'm in a 99% zone, but I'm planning on driving up to totality in the wee hours of the morning when, hopefully, the traffic will be manageable. It'll probably be a parking lot on the way home, but I can live with that. Picked up my glasses today, and I'm keeping the car fueled over the weekend in ant...

Ahh, Quarterdeck!

One of the best tech companies to appear and disappear - extended memory management when Intel processors only allowed 640K to be addressed; windowed multi-tasking when even Microsoft Windows could not do that - a real pioneer!

I use Bose. The current models are much better than the old ones when it comes to comfort, sound pressure, and the like. The batteries last the entire flight (which is good because the current models do not have replaceable batteries, like the old ones. I heartily recommend them! More than that, the...

Do you use the landline? I ditched mine when I found I never answered the darn thing but always had voicemails from junk senders, notwithstanding the Do Not Call list. It was worse than useless. Is your cell service ok where you are located? Does it go out a lot with the mountain location? (I know i...

synthel2 - yea or nay on those padded standing mats? Did you ever use one? They're probably a good idea for the average person. I find them to be only a mild help (and didn't use one), but as a barefoot runner, I may not be the best datapoint for that. I suspect the mats are a YMMV thing. I'm an ol...

Re: Standing desks?

I have a motorized standing desk from Nextdesks. I use it frequently, and I generally feel better when I do. I bought the motorized model because it is good to be able to change from one position to the other, and the motor makes that so easy that I don't hesitate to use it. Really, neither standing...

I've been playing a lot of Supreme Commander Forged Alliance - did not know about the FAF site until I saw this thread and am excited to look into it.

I liked the campaigns in SC2, but the skirmishes in SC2 are more fun as simple solo entertainment.

There are three separate issues in the responses to the OP: 1) Is there potential liability for which the OP should be concerned; 2) What is the insurance company doing; and 3) What should the OP do? I am an attorney, have handled matters like this for almost 40 years, but give the following caveat:...

The best way to solve energy consumption issues is to reduce the population. The less people you have the less energy you will consume and therefore the less pollution you will create regardless of which energy source you choose. The Chinese were onto something with their one child policy. The only...

I'm a pro-nuclear advocate, given that it's far far cleaner than fossil fuels provided the waste is managed responsibly and the power production is "always on" to handle demand unlike solar, wind, hydrothermal and wave power. As am I. As to Nuclear's cleanliness I did some back of the nap...
