Re: Another Seagate bites the dust

Well you got lucky... I've had several instances of seagate drives dying. PERIOD. No errors, not bad blocks, the drive just stopped spinning after a couple of years. A stark contrast with my WD drives: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/149537/Screenshots/Screenshot%202015-09-06%2015.23.15.png http...

Re: monitoring file/dir changes (ransomware, bitrot detectio

Yeah that's the only problem I've found it can't update the hash database.
I have a script that checks the hashes and mails me the report via cron, runs on a weekly basis, and on a 3 month basis I regenerate the whole db, it's not perfect but it works.

Re: monitoring file/dir changes (ransomware, bitrot detectio

With a growing collection of digital memories, and concerns over both cryptolocker style malware and simple bit rot, I'm looking for tools to help detect such issues. One of the problems (potentially more with bit rot) is that I wouldn't know if, for example, one of my photographs from 2007 got cor...

Re: Something's dying... gasp...

Aaaaaaaaand it crashed again but after a loooooong time. About 5 hours. There is some heat buildup in the chip set area. I should have got a blower type card for this case but I didn't. I'll have to work on the cooling before the 770 gets here.

Re: Something's dying... gasp...

Since you mentioned you tried the video card in another rig and it crashed again due to the drivers i would suggest you read upon TDRs. For troubleshooting try rolling back to an older driver version. If you don't remember which one was stable then try 295.73 and test using the GTX 570. Note that y...

Re: Something's dying... gasp...

It sounds similar to what I experienced when my X25-M failed, sporadic lockups and crashes. The SMART data was fine but when I ran the Full Disk Scan in Intel SSD Toolbox the PC crashed at around 70%. You should definitely run that scan on your SSDs if you haven't already. Tested, passed with flyin...

Re: Something's dying... gasp...

Thanks for all your suggestions, I'll try all of thatin the weekend. As a note, I ran crysis 2 benches all night without a single crash at the highest settings. It's not the same since the benchmark closes and restarts crysis once every 3 runs. The only change I made is the case was open. I think it...

Might want to try lowering the resolution too. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Yeah I'll play at 1080p tomorrow just in case... if it's stable over 2/3 hours it might be good enough I guess.

Re: Something's dying... gasp...

Inspect the motherboard and check for any obvious damage or damaged capacitors, and check for any slight bulging. For checking the PSU you would need a accurate multimeter and test to see if the voltage drops when the system is under load and to see if the voltage is within specs. Also if you know ...

I'll try with both mem/CPU at stocks speeds... Need to reproduce the crash with an unattended test first. I'm trying with crysis 2 looped indifinitely

Re: Something's dying... gasp...

I forgot to add... I checked temps. CPU doesn't get over 65c in OCCT, GPU never goes beyond 70c... I hate this... it's so much easier when stuff burns!! (but I'm broke now so I hope it won't) Also... I game at 2560x1440, it's a bit too much for the card but I don't think that would be a reason for i...

Re: Goodbye SLI, hello HTPC! Any advice for an HTPC n00b?

Pcsx is aún emulator, i only advice to use that xinput wrapper. It allows to use ps3 controllers as if they were x360 controllers.

The biggest advantage is that unlike motion joy there is no ads nor driver signing conflicts nor an ie9 frame based controlnpanrel with elevated permissions

Re: Upgrade

Yes! that's what I thought, even without OC'ing it's probably on par and since I always play with vsync on it's probably the better choice.

On the other hand for a 24/7 server Ivy's power consumption is probably a better choice... what to do what to do...

I'll give that a shot. The first instructions I gave you should work on the jump s...

Re: X Window through SSH through RDC

I use that everyday...If it works you might append export DISPLAY=localhost:0 in .bashrc so you don't have to run it everytime Also a better solution would be to add an static route on you PC to the AIX server's network via the W2K8 server. You'd need to enable routing in the 2k8 box so I don't know...

Re: X Window through SSH through RDC

Where do you have Xming installed? you need to install Xming on the W2k8 server. I'd go this route: - Install Xming - Install Cygwin (add mintty just to have a nice console) - Fire mintty and run: export DISPLAY=localhost:0 - Fire xming - SSH into your server with -Y and -C options - Start your grap...
