Re: Video card with 6x or 8x mini-HDMI ports?

Matrox do a C900 model that provides 9 HDMI outputs, although they only support up to 1920x1200 each.

Re: Monitor help! Please help.

Low quality videos like youtube are always going to look better on a TV. Partly because the image is simply smaller - it fills less of your field of vision - and partly because TVs are designed to flatter the image. Nobody's going to be using a TV for video editing so it can try and hide compression...

Re: fixing outdoor furinture aluminum bent chair leg?

If all four corners are firmly anchored and you're only worried about a single leg rather than a bent frame I'm guessing this is a slot together type rather than a screwed together folding model. If that's the case then instead of fixing it you might want to give some consideration to redesigning it...

Re: Would it make sense to replace a GTX 560 Ti with GT 1030?

Are they're any major gains from a hardware decode by upgrading? In HEVC and VP9 yes, in H.264 no. The big thing missing on nVidia's cards at the moment is Displayport Adaptive Sync (aka Freesync) so if you're likely to replace your monitor in the life of the card then I'd definitely stick to the A...

Re: QLED

The TL;DR outcome is that Samsung's QLED panels ought to be capable of performing as if they had dedicated RGBLED backlights instead of standard white-LED backlights. I don't think they're anywhere near as wide as RGB backlights yet, but they do seem to be just an alternate way of achieving a wide ...

I played the series for the first time a couple of years ago and Tesla Effect felt like it carried on directly. If it wasn't for the modern graphics and control you'd easily mistake it for something released a year or two after overlord rather than fifteen years later.

Re: Running 4K screen at 1080p for gaming

OLEDs have an unusual pixel structure with four subpixels instead of the usual three so you'd likely see some oddities even at full resolution (so be sure to turn off cleartype), although only if you're close enough of course. If you don't like the TV's scaling you can always get your graphics card ...

Re: Question about a monitor, and a cheap video card

I just didn't know if I needed X amount of VRAM to push a 2K WQHD monitor. You do, but it's 50-60MB or something equally trivial. Do the older cards you mention have HDMI or DP outputs? I don't recall if I saw one of the more reasonably priced monitors having a DVI input. The GPUs support DP 1.2 bu...

Re: Question about a monitor, and a cheap video card

You only need to splash out on an gaming/workstation card like a 560 or 1050 for 3440x1440 and above, all the cheaper cards will happily do 2560x1600 and below. A GT710 is often a good combination of cheap, only a bit ancient and not too much slower than integrated graphics, but even the 5450/R5 230...

- I have the brightness down to 30% There's no standardised brightness scale, so 30% is meaningless. If you don't have a calibrator to measure it then it's just something you have to experiment with to find a comfortable level and if you're using it in a room lit by natural light you may well need ...

Re: The Nintendo Switch is pretty great

whether the build quality is good is irrelevant Imo, since the hardware is SO many years behind. I wouldn't spend $300 on an Xbox 360 today, even if it had a small screen, and that's roughly the same power as a switch. The Xbox 360 is a 170W console, not a 9W tablet. Compared with cutting edge hard...

I'm just trying to figure out if building a Ryzen 4 core system can be done with basic graphics equivalent or better than buying an i7 with a 630 IGP for instance. Zen isn't Kaby Lake, the 1500X is comparable to a similarly priced i5 in most of the non-gaming benchmarks I've seen despite the SMT. T...

I thought only the R5 230 version was supported and the HD 5450 version wasn't (same chip I know). On second look, the $70 1030's are all REALLY crappy small single fans. Those are going to be prone to death by dust and loud noise. I think you're rather overestimating it's power consumption there, i...

To put that into perspective, a quad-core Kaby Lake is about 121 mm^2 Is that the Kaby Lake-S die size? That may not be a fair comparison. If this is AMD's largest Raven Ridge then it would be competing with Intel's GT4 dies. The standard Kaby Lake quad-core die size (e.g. any chip that you've seen...

There's no point in speculating when you don't lose anything by simply trying it. Buy the monitor and if you're happy, great. If not, upgrading won't cost you any more buying them afterwards then it will buying them together.

Even so, it's not the cost of the power that usually is why I and other care about power usage, it's the heat and overclocking headroom. It seems silly to pay someone more money to get the same product that has just been overclocked if I can do the same. In this case it is more expensive (albeit, a...

Current the cable can handle. I saw a 2A and a 3A on the links you gave. Some phones require the higher current for either faster charge or just charging at all. Can you explain, Arvald? IIRC a 3 Amp USB-A cable would be useless because A ports can't output 3 Amps. I thought that USB 3.0 standards ...

Complicating matters is the HDR standards situation. From what I gather, Dolby Labs developed HDR10 and gave it away for free, except they kept a flaw in it whereby loss of detail occurs in darker scenes. Do you mean static metadata? It's a bit odd to call it a flaw, it's just a technology that isn...
