http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/puppy-4.3.1/special-puppies/pup-431-small.iso is what I use to trouble shoot with. It loads from the cd/dvd into a very small amount of RAM, and let's me check everything else out. It's a really small download 96.4 MB, if you have another machine to download with.

The last time I saw that pattern of white that I viewed on the leaves in the last picture, it was on a Yellow crookneck squash plant. I don't know how you'd get volunteers unless you'd planted them there before, but I'll cast a vote for your mystery plant being a Yellow crookneck squash.
