Re: Nvidia 8800 GT Heat Problems.

I am unsure if this advice is viable with graphics cards but i know it works on a computer cpu, can you lower your cpu voltage to my knowledge this is the best way to reduce the temperature and in many cases with a cpu you can take it down by a good amount without compromising stability or performan...

Re: Nvidia 8800 GT Heat Problems.

i will attempt to be helpful i dont see why you cant just replace the thermal paste just make sure you remove the old stuff first and reseat the heatsink properly i also assume its dust free and been overclocked? the temperature sensor may be incorrect, i am unsure if its worth trying to touch the h...

Re: CPU Multiplier, Bus Speed and HT Link

Thanks for the detailed response.

I guess i have been slightly confused by the outdated information that does not apply to me.

I am one of those people that likes to know exactly whats going on and how and why.

Re: CPU Multiplier, Bus Speed and HT Link

I suppose this is me trying to undersatand this, clearly i am not doing a good job of it or explaining what i mean. This is about how wile reading about computers i read something about having a high bus speed and lower multiplier offers better performance without overclocking, and how having the bu...

Re: Daimond based thermal compound

In theory i would imagine that diamond based thermal compound would be less effective as i believe i read somewhere that they form triangular crystals, and that is not the shape you want them to be if you are trying to have a good thermal connection between 2 flat surfaces.

Re: CPU Multiplier, Bus Speed and HT Link

It also might be worth asking how to be 100% sure i raise bus speed and lower multiplier without overclocking anything, i know its important to ensure that i lower my ram ratios so i dont inadvertently overclock them, but there are quite a few other parts in a computer i may have overlooked, overclo...

Re: CPU Multiplier, Bus Speed and HT Link

Ahh, sorry; I miunderstood. If the RAM and motherboard are both rated for 1066, then running the RAM at 1066 isn't overclocking. It is a little odd that it defaulted to 800, but that is probably just the BIOS trying to ensure that the system will POST with default settings, even if the RAM is margi...

Re: CPU Multiplier, Bus Speed and HT Link

Thanks for the responses. When i first put my system together the ram was running at 800 MHz but as i bought 1066 MHz ram i simply changed it to that in the bios. I was aware that it did not overclock the cpu but i was unaware that it overclocked the mobo, i wish to learn a bit about computers and t...

Re: what kind of linux/unix do you use

Seriously, just get a router, plug it into your modem, and your computer into the router. It'll work a lot better and no screwing around with their crappy afterthought Linux driver. Sadly my linux project is failing and i admit you are very much CORRECT it is not worth the time it is taking to fix ...

CPU Multiplier, Bus Speed and HT Link

hello I wish to optimise my pc, i have an AMD phenom x3 8650, not top of the line but a budget buy but it gives me what i need for under £59 new. It is currently running at 2300MHz, multiplier 11.5, bus speed 200MHz, HT link 1800MHz i used CPU-Z to get that. I have read that increasing the bus speed...

Re: what kind of linux/unix do you use

I liked the simplicity of the usb ports its just 2 connectors for the 5v current and 2 for the data, i always thought that it would be best to be able to power almost everything directly from the computers psu that is connected to the pc, that way we could justify buying a psu with such a high watta...

Re: what kind of linux/unix do you use

I have spent ages trying to work out how to install my modem drivers but no luck. I have a sagem f@st 800-840 adsl modem, downloaded the linux drivers from the sagem site the file is called Fast8x0_3-0-6.tgz , i have found guides to installing things on linux but none that seem to work. Some example...

Re: what kind of linux/unix do you use

According to crystal cupid my cpu multiplyer goes down to 4 but for some odd reason it warns against it, what is the lowest possible multiplier a cpu can have?
