Re: Goodbye TR, it was a great run

I suppose it's time. First time checking site in two weeks, nothing much different. I'm a long time lurker, been to a couple TR BBQs, got to meet the local celebrities and taste some ribs. Not sure where I'll find a like-experience as this. Anandtech is too busy, Ars too pedestrian. Definitely nothi...

Re: Something's different...

This is sad.

When I saw her first post (if it even is a real person), I went from checking the site every morning to stopping in once a week. Soon probably not be at all. Man I miss the old-old guard and reading their articles and the fun it was with people and their different personalities.

Re: Something's different...

Someone should have read their own article: https://www.johnrampton.com/product-ready-go-live-launch-checklist/ Ha, no kidding. Probably hired someone else to write it. It reads like a fluff piece. Did you see his bio? Online Influencer? Really? Maybe he's a great guy, but any of the dozens of peop...

Re: Media Replication

In Linux I use rsync over SSH in a nightly cron job. That's how I replicate my home directory to the NAS each night. In Windows I'm not sure how you'd authenticate with the remote host using something like robocopy. It might be something just as simple, but I haven't tried it. Came looking for rsyn...

Re: Media Replication

To me, the more interesting problem seems to be how to cross the different networks. Assuming this is not some business-type site-to-site network and more like between 2 home-based computers connected to the public internet, you will need a bit more secure way to have 1 connecting to the other. Ope...

Re: Media Replication

I've used DFS replication in the past and it falls afoul of several real-world scenarios unless you commit to "The Microsoft Way" of data management. FWIW, this "Microsoft Way" of data management is a moving target of best-practices and outdated documentation, using customers as...

Media Replication

Thought I'd cull the opinions of the masses here to see where I should start. I have a handful of physical servers across the internet that contain a lot of documents, media, photos, music, videos. How do I setup replication between all of these? As in, new things are added, they all get a copy . Wh...

Re: LSI Card issues?

Yes, just data volumes.

I put the drives in the array first, then the initialization process started once the RAID was setup.

Just means I need to upgrade my main machine's CPU and use it as a basis for a new server.....

Re: LSI Card issues?

Based on the time, I'd guess your drives are around the 5 TB mark? The initialization time is usually pretty close to the rebuild time in the event of a disk failure, assuming the controller has uninterrupted access to the disks. In real world scenarios, system IO gets priority over rebuilding, so ...

So - if you aren't booting from it, just remove the boot ROM from the card. I do this on all of them because they are so damn finicky even in servers. 1. Don't know about his, but there aren't any socketed chips on mine. Sorry, I didn't clarify. I mean wiping out the boot ROM via "sas2flash -o...

Re: LSI Card issues?

Short version of what JBOD and IT are JBI? JBOD = just use the card as if it is a dumb 8-port SATA card (e.g. use your OS's software RAID) IR = the stock firmware which comes on retail cards, which supports the card's onboard RAID capabilities IT = alternate firmware you can flash which disables th...

Re: LSI Card issues?

I've seen some RAID cards that don't update the initialization progress bar properly, even in the EFI/BIOS. If you create the array, leave that screen (don't reboot, just back out), and then go back after an hour or two, it may show progress. Some controllers abort initialization during a restart, ...

Re: LSI Card issues?

If you're actually trying to boot from it it sounds like the version of the BIOS installed isn't compatible with your board/BIOS/UEFI version. Initialization is a background step that you don't need to do anything about, it'll complete over the course of a few days (longer if you're hitting it with...

Re: LSI Card issues?

Yeah, I assumed it was some off-shoot variant number of the 9210-8i you listed.

I'm trying to create a Raid 1. That's it. But I'm getting the same issue I mentioned. I can't get past that screen and nothing looks initialized. So not sure what I'm suppose to do from here.

LSI Card issues?

So I too got one of those LSI 9211-8i (which is the only model I can't find on their website for any support/drivers?), and I'm not sure what I'm suppose to do at this point. I got into the config utility, built the RAID 1, and it says 0% initialized. There's no option to start initializing. What am...

If you haven't, update the firmware. I had similar issues when I first bought my C9 (although not as frequent as your issue), firmware updates fixed it pretty quickly. That's the thing, the router rejects new firmware updates after a few versions. Spouts some error about the wrong thing. Seeing as ...

So I bought a Archer C9 for home use early last year [had for about 18 months now] and have been buying a few TP-Link routers, extenders, and the like here and there for other people. I bought this hoping it would be a little better brand than the Netgear & Linksys, but the only problems I had w...

Hey, I'm in a chair 11-13 hours a day and a big fella. Not sure what my budget is for a new chair, but anything through Amazon is going to be easier to get (got credit to burn). Probably $400-500? I saw this previous thread: https://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=119346&hilit=cha...

Re: Years in the making, new I7 Build

I think the 9000-series is worth considering if he needs a 8-core. Waiting for the tested results to see if Intel achieves higher GHz may also be on the table. Obviously, waiting for the 9000-series entails its risks, as detailed about the "unobtainable" argument from Krogoth with regards...
