Re: SanDisk Cruzer Edge is *horrible*

I had one of those, (the 16GB version), and as you say, performance is terrible. Now I have the Sandisk Ultra Flair 64GB, and performance while not stellar is much better : around sustained 35MB/s whiel writing on an USB 3.0 port, and is not that expensive (around 24€ for the 64GB version). There yo...

Re: Are you buying a RX 480?

At last, I ended up buying an ASUS Geforce GTX 1060 6GB OC Dual fan. A bit expensive, but about the same price of the RX480 8GB and more easily available. IMO it has better performnace in current games, consumes less power, and this model in particular has a very silent fan. This is my first nvidia ...

So jealous. We've had a couple cheap ones but I this don't work any better than a decent out of binoculars. Difference between nice binoculars and cheap telescope is neglibible. Even sometimes you can see stuff better with binoculars and a good tripod than with a cheap telescope. I had a 50 euro te...

OMG, 16 inches is like 41 cm aperture, and that is quite huge! I'm sure that when you get that beast you'll be able to enjoy very nice views of the sky!

I love astronomy but I live in a city, the light pollution means I often struggle to make out our own galactic disc. When I visit the folks, the conditions are occasionally good enough for my dad to break out his Orion 8" reflector. It's all manual from 10+ years ago so none of that fancy smar...

Re: Are you into astronomy? Show your gear!

I don't have a picture of my stuff assembled but I have a Celestron C8-SGT.  It's a 8", F/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain.  Considering it's 8" it is pretty compact so I normally take it to a friends house to use as I am in town and there are a lot of trees in my yard.  Between that and the weather...

Are you into astronomy? Show your gear!

Hi all! I have always liked to watch the sky and everything related to astronomy, stars, planets and the universe, but it hasn't been until recently (about 5 months ago), that I bought my first telescope ever. I have joined a local astronomy group and there are astronomy related activities almost ev...

The only issue I've encountered - and it's a weird one - is that with my key bindings, it tells me to right-click the mouse to enter a level after it's loaded... and it won't. I have to alt-tab out of Doom and then hop back into it, and THEN it's fine. Same happens to me if I customize key bindings...

Still running on my almost 4 year old i5 3550 (3.3 base/3.7 turbo), and I still have to find some program that will run slow on it.
So no, I don't think I'll upgrade my computer for a lot of money and not so great increase in performnace for a long time (2, or 3 years at least).

In my particular case, with a radeon HD 7870, I tried GPU-z fan speed logger with Unigine Valley, and temperatures raised to 67, which is high, but not alarming. Fan speed did go to 27% but got stuck in there. Anyway, I remember testing this benchmark before and temps were 60-62 maximum. So I'm not ...

It surprises me that a Celeron at 2GHz+ can't play media files properly, and my 4 year old laptop, based upon the E-350 APU (1.6 GHz dual core) can play Full HD media without problems.
Can't it be some kind of software problem? Maybe drivers, maybe codecs?

Wow, thanks for all the replies! I've been investigating, and since I had a Geforce 210 1GB DDR3 PCI-e graphics card in another computer, I decided to test it, and put it in the Athlon64 system, and while it didn't help in chrome at all, and fps stayed the same (at 10-15), things were quite differen...

Play HD video with an Athlon64 3500+ possible?

I have been given "the job", to restore an old machine, which happens to have an Athlon64 3500+ CPU in an AM2 socket, with 1GB DDR2, and an integrated Geforce 6100 (or something like that). When it plays HD video on youtube, full screen, it manages to get about 15-20 fps, and falls short o...

Only once. It happened when I bought an Intel SE440BX motherboard with a pentium 2 266 MHz and 128MB SDRAM PC66 (yes, 66 MHz). Some time later, and after updating the BIOS the old way (botting from a floppy disk and executing a DOS program), I found that I could plug in a pentium 3. So i bought a pe...

Thanks for the replies, I've searched in the samsung website, and apparently if you hit F4 at startup, it should begin the restore process, but this doesn't work on this laptop, so yes, i will get a refund, and be done with it.

Make sure SELinux is set on permissive or disabled, otherwise this could explain your login problems. Specially if you're using a Red Hat based distro.

Re: Graphic Card Crapping Out

If downclocking the GPU has solved most of the issues, this sounds to me as it has some kind of overheating problem. You should try to clean the heatsink and fan, and if that is not enough you can consider getting a new cooler for your graphics card. I don't think your gfx memory is degrading over t...

Re: Why not display frame time data in a familiar format?

What about measuring average fps every second, in a long enough gameplay time period, and plotting some kind of distribution chart.
You could see the minimum fps, the maximum, the most common fps and you would get a good idea if fps drop to often or not.

I've seen some online shop with the i5 3570K for about 200€ and a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 660 Ti for ~ 260€. If you can't afford it, I would suggest you an i5 3550 (180€) and a plain GTX 660 not Ti version (200€), or maybe a Radeon HD7870 GHz edition (200€). You might want to try to strech your budget ...

I haven't used ramdisks and things like smartdrive (an old ram based hard disc cache), since MSDOS time (yes, I'm that old).
