Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

The other problem, and this gets political, is that the #1 riders of a bus system will typically be poor people who can't afford a car. If you don't have a car, the bus system is your only option for suburban transit. Suburban carless people are the primary users of the bus system, and as such the ...

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

I think you missed his point. Yes the net density by province is lower, but most of the population they do have is concentrated in a strip fairly close to the southern border. You can serve a pretty large percentage of the population by putting a charging network there. Agreed. 90% of Canada's popu...

Re: For movies on disc (yeah), do you ever register your "digital copy?"

I still buy DVD's and I don't bother registering the digital copy. Seems like too much of a hassle and besides, who's to say they'll keep the service running? I'm not worried about my DVD's wearing out or losing them. Although there are a few dvd's that I own that refuse to play on my media center b...

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

I found this video to be extremely helpful in the whole EV vs ICE TOTAL pollution debate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RhtiPefVzM

It is a fantastic video and really breaks everything down.

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

Not to mention that electricity is generally generated by fossil fuels, and Alberta of all places is certainly no exception to this. Ontario is MOSTLY green. Generally speaking, an EV in Ontario isn't transferring the pollution from the tail pipe to the power plant. Lease vs buy (original question)...

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

Tbh I think anyone buying a new ICE engine in 2019 knowing about the climate issues needs to give their head a shake. I'm fully in favor of a ban on ice engine sales by 2030. Until you can convince all the old people that climate change is real, electric vehicles really are cheaper, and they'll be ...

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

Couple things: A kona and a soul Ev are not the same. The soul Ev only gets like 200km per charge. Why it's on the market with that same old system for almost the same price as the kona is beyond me, especially since the new soul is based on the kona platform. Buying probably makes sense, and they'...

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

The 2019 Leaf/Leaf+ still lacks battery thermal management, but thankfully the 2019 Kona does have this. So for the Ottawa summers, I should be good. I know our winters will drop the battery capacity (my friend who drives a 2017 Nissan Leaf here in Ottawa says about 25% loss, but I'd like to hear w...

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

Normally I wouldn't suggest leasing anything, but given the uncertainty of EV battery life running through repeated Canadian winters and the lousy resale value on both (a) Hyundai Group vehicles and (b) EVs in general, this might be an exception. The usual caveat being that you're already financial...

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

Mine's been through 4 Ottawa winters with no battery issues and that's generally the case. What kills the batteries is heat - either high ambient temperatures or driving fast and then fast charging (50kW DC). The 2019 Leaf/Leaf+ still lacks battery thermal management, but thankfully the 2019 Kona d...

Something else to consider when buying an EV... if you don't have an existing 240V outlet in the area where the vehicle will be parked, you need to factor in the cost of having one installed.

I just reno'd my garage and installed some 6/3 in there with a secondary outlet of 8/3. I'm ready : )

Re: To Lease or too buy an EV

I'm in a relatively small market (city of 1 million) and the only non Bolt EVs (I hate Chevy) within 100km of me are2017 Leaf and 2017 Ford Focus. Both at $21k and 5.99%. For $190/month more, the Kona is brand new with double the range and HP. I take the bus to work (downtown) so that won't change w...

To Lease or too buy an EV

Sadly my 2007 Subaru Imprezza with 275k km (170877 miles) has developed multiple rust spots (part of living in Canada, I rust coated it every year) and although it is drive able (replaced the timing belt and clutch in 2014), it will require close $4500 to get it "proper" (currently a corro...

Re: Borderlands 3

I don't mind paying extra for a season pass for DLC. The amount of additional content they added in BL2 was well worth it, especially the mr.Torque Carnage campaign and Tiny Tina's assault. Those two combined were worth the season pass. I'd pay the $100. I am not, however, going to install another s...

Re: Borderlands 3

I sank something like 600 hours into BL2, getting 2 characters up to LV72 and another 2 around LV50.

I'm so stoked for this. Even if it's *not* as good as BL2, I'll still play it and have a massively amazing time.

Also...guns with legs? Count me in!!!!

Re: Reviews that would suit Tech Report

I agree. The PC industry has become boring. Oh look, another 100mhz speed increase. Another core added. Which is why I think the Robo-kitty box is amazing. Their LED reviews were excellent as is generally any review they do that meets the TR standard. Now that I think about it, I believe TR did a Ro...

A former co-worker of mine just took a job at GitHub a couple of months ago. His reaction to the acquisition: "at least it isn't Oracle". (Which is probably similar to the reaction he had when his previous employer was acquired by IBM...) My company was acquired by IBM as well. I hated my...

By the time the game ended, I had a lance of 4 King Crabs, each loaded with 4 medium lasers, 4 SRM-6s, maximum armor, maximum jump jets, and enough heat sinks to be able to jump around and fire all the weapons at once. Oh yeah, and enough morale and called shot mastery to be able to do targeted sho...
