Re: Words that should be common use in US English, but aren't

Irregardless A double-negative. "Ir" meaning "not" regardless. Not without regard. I'm pretty sure that's already covered in this thread, but I cannot find where it was discussed. Probably just bad at searching. That's how it would make sense, but dictionaries list it meaning th...

Re: Words that should be common use in US English, but aren't

I must say, I'm very much partial to "Knave" "cur" and "Frack". "Frack" has gotten me out of a lot of cursing issues at work (since we have to be PC) so that's a personal fave. "Knave" is one I wish I had more weathered use with, same with "cur&...

Re: Modular PSUs: Where are the gems?

Just fair warning on going with a non-mod power supply, the premium is really for saving you all that money on tylenol from all that banging your head against the case because the cable management is a mess because your power supply comes with everything and the kitchen sink and you're case isn't e...

Re: Intel, Intel, Intel Everywhere!

I love people that say the "evil" in Intel has no dealings with who makes the better product. Considering, if Intel wasn't such a shady company, and if the actions they did to limit AMD's sales never happened, who's to say that all the extra income AMD would have gotten from all those yea...

Re: Windows 7 is Mohave.

I'll only say this: I use modern hardware, so therfore I use a modern x64 OS. That OS is 7 (professional if one must pry). If you're using older hardware (1999 and earlier) perhaps your needs are best served on XP. If you have a computer that's using older than 99 tech, the chances are you're only u...

Re: Considering this upgrade, please give input!

your upgrade path is pretty solid, although I'd agree with picking a different RAM company as G.Skill I've personally had bad experiences with it. go with a bigger name company like Corsair with a similarly priced model, you'll find as long as it isn't the fancy pants overclocker's set of sticks, it...

Re: What to upgrade with $200 budget

I'm really only echoing earlier comments, you're system is well balanced and should have quite some life in it still. I agree, if you're using only 200 bucks go with a GPU upgrade, preferably a 5770 or if you can stretch your budget just a tad a 5850. As far as your E6600 that's a great processor. m...

Re: Upgrading to an I7, need help choosing.

Depends on your objectives with either type. Remember that the 860 was on the line of a high end mainstream system, whereas the 920 was entry level workstation/enthusiast system. As far as an upgrade path, use of more than just a single PCI-E 2.0 x16 bus lane (for non-crippled SLI/Xfire performance)...

Re: Intel, Intel, Intel Everywhere!

Say what you will about how "evil" Intel is, they're a company out for profit. They can be unethical at times, and while I don't support that and believe in healthy competition in any market, no one can argue Intel makes good products hence why they make tons of money. So while I feel bad ...

Re: about the ASRock X58 Extreme

I don't have personal experience with the ASRock x58 board (I went with the Gigabyte x58 UD3R, probably should of went with the UD5), but its getting decent reviews on Newegg, as well as a solid review on Motherboards.org http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/motherboards/1923_16.html . I hope that he...

Re: Mass Effect

I had similiar issues running ME before. I had done a reinstall on my rig that ran ME perfectly on Win 7 Beta 64 but when I moved to Windows 7 RC 64 on the same rig, it wouldn't run. After searching the forums for a week I ended up plunking down 20 bucks for the Steam version and got it running no p...

Re: Dragon Age: Origins System Requirements

I'm echoing sentiments in comments before me, but I'm glad its recommending a Quad in its specs. Hopefully that's an indication that multi-threading is really catching on with Devs. I love my i7 920, but at the end of the day, its not being pushed to what it nearly can be pushed and there are times ...

Re: Post your Highest OC'

I've been playing it safe with my OCs, I typically don't go anything above anything that require voltage tweaks on stuff I can't afford to lose (atm my current rig as I sold my old rig) and I haven't messed with Watercooling, so all my OCs are on air with custom Coolers (I typically like stuff from ...

Re: Need suggestions on opt. airflow for a CM Storm Scout case

I was basically thinking along those same lines although with fan nearest to the GPU I wasn't sure if I should have that one on intake or exhaust. As for the case, I love the case its much better than my Raidmax Aztec in terms of space and not nearly as fragile (front end came off after many LAN par...

Need suggestions on opt. airflow for a CM Storm Scout case

Hello fellow Gerbils, I'm new to the forums although I've been reading Tech Report for quite sometime. I really enjoy reading all the articles and in-depth reviews here on the site, its become one of my daily rituals to check in my morning routine (and occasionally during a slow day at work ^_^;;) A...
