Well took 3 tries to guess my password but 3rd time was a charm. First visit in probably a year.

Usually hangout at smallnetbuilder forums and techpowerup (mechtech *handle) now. Forums here are really tapering off now also. Too bad, is/was a lot of knowledgeable people here.

Depends on budget and a lot of other things.

Router perhaps an Asus RT-AC68U or RT-AC86U.

Modems, usually provided by the ISP. Motorola got bought out ARRIS.

Look at small net builder website for in depth networking stuff.

lol squirrel you working right now? how do you have time for all that stuff? kids moved out? Good work though, like super dad. Odd seeing a breaker outside, here more of a disconnect outside and breaker inside. I got a pile of work, biggest priority gets the time, and other stuff gets the back burn...

Indeed, I haven't logged in here in awhile. Tweakguides also seemed to have pulled the pin on the website and articles and just has a twitter feed now. I mainly read frequent smallnetbuilder, techpowerup and tftcentral now, not much left out there compared to 10 years ago, the halcyon days of the PC...

I just did one as a trial. Apparently some videos are in 480 and some 720, forgot to check if i or p. MKV files from 1 full dvd was over 10GB!! A quick pass through handbrake at 1080p 30fps MP4 took about 50min and reduced size to ~600MB. Quality seemed ok, pc was an old 45nm Athlonx2 @3.1ghz. I sho...

So I have a bunch of family videos on DVD from the old jvc camcorder. I would guess they are mpeg2 dvd files. Since dvd's seem to be going extinct I would like to back them up to another format, probably hdd on the NAS I guess. I'm just wondering what software will make this go quickly and keep qual...
