Re: Anyone repair anything today?

Wowzorz !! No insulation on the basement walls!!! Down here below 49 North all that stuff goes on the outside and gets backfilled. Even here in VT with no insulation on either side my stone-wall cellar only freezes if it's -20F or below for a couple of days. Interesting It varies up here, but somet...

Re: What liquid is used for "water" cooling?

Commercial/industrial air conditioning often uses ammonia as a refrigerant. That might be what that was. My sister and her husband own an ice business. You know, the 5lb bags of cubes you get at the corner store. Their entire cooling cycle is built on pure anhydrous ammonia. They run a full-on disa...

Dang it, 1.5 years since I opened the topic. Did a bit of research the last few days and the selection of G-Sync screens is still ridiculously limited. They still sell the same QA issue plagues models for 800 bucks. Sheesh, I really want to move on from my old 21.5" 1080p TN panel, but apparen...

Not surprising at all. Anyone still trying to run Windows 7 on a CPU from that era is a masochist anyhow. Might as well put 'em out of their misery. hmm I don't know, i have friends and family members running amd 955be from 2009 on win 7 cause there is no driver support on win 10 for the grap...

Re: Is a bigger monitor with lower pixel density necessarily worse than a smaller one with higher pixel density?

Personal preference mainly, and sitting distance and eye sight. Ask yourself, do you like the screen on your smart phone? What resolution is that and what resolution would it be if it was 24"?? Myself, I have a BenQ BL2420PT 2560x1440 at 23.8" and I like it much better than my old 21.5&quo...

Re: Fiber optic vs cable

Never had fiber but i do have the option. I'm on cable and have had speeds from 5Mbps (way back) all the way to 300Mbps, and currently at 100Mbps. (all down speeds) I would say diminishing returns starts around 50Mbps down, and kicks in lots around 100Mpbs. (down) Having said that I am about 400 mil...

Re: While we're all worshiping AMD because FREEDOM!

So GPP might be out the window and AMD can run around acting all heroic and whatnot. But just remember, they play their own games with the OEMs too: http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/amd-invoking-sales-ban-for-asrock-phantom-gaming-graphics-cards-in-europe.html So while AMD makes self-serving press ...

Re: Inexpensive IPS for Office (Dual Monitor)

Man, is the Display scene ever messed up, at least as far as the Asus displays go. The alphabet soup is strong with them, and no decoder ring comes in the package either. I seem to have an issue finding the REAL differences between monitors like the VP239H-P and the VC239H. I see some subtle differ...

Lots of people "concur it's probably not healthy," but lack any actual research to back it up. It IS fun, and there are no health issues unless you've got a health reason not to. In fact, it's not even unusual in many places in the world. After about 100 hours you do start to have some pr...

I'm perplexed by all the talk of anti-competitive behavior. lol well since it's derailed, how can one find out more about Firmware/BIOS coding, one can find C/etc tutorials everywhere, but BIOS/Firmware seems a bit magic in finding some meat and potatoes information on how it's done properly.
