Re: Winter weather

This was my afternoon project. There's a Subaru Forester somewhere in that pile. The one piece you can see is the passenger side mirror, so not only is there a lot of snow on the car, there's even more on the ground. https://www.dropbox.com/s/bukvjrvwx9r2kqv/IMG_20170315_135556.jpg?raw=1 Lucky you....

A 2 hour delay for 3" of snow? Why so long of a delay? Long trip? He probably lives in the South. It's like that everytime we get snow in VA. It's frustrating. Everytime it snows here everyone acts like it's the first damn time they've ever seen the stuff. Traffic backs up, cars and trucks sli...

For non-gaming yes. Re: Sennheiser HD280 headphones

Not to necro an old thread, but I have been eyeing one of these. I am doing a lots of flying lately and want a set of closed headphones to help reduce the noise (in the $115 range). I see the impedance is quite high. Has anyone used these for traveling? Do you still get decent volume from them? Woul...

Re: Ryzen Passmark: Prime and Physics are off, excels at everything else.

Anyone seen this leak ? Looks like AMD has higher IPC then Haswell but lower than broadwell. wouldn't 146 @ 3.3ghz vs 152 @ 3.6ghz mean it has higher IPC than broadwell? (I guess Cinebench must be relevant to someone, but they would most likely rather see the multicore results anyway.) Actually Bro...

Re: SATA SSD vs NVMe SSD (similar boot and load times)

About this. Does or has anyone upgraded from a good 2.5 sata SSD to an NMVe on a newer CPU??  Just wondering if there is a human perceivable noticeable real world improvement?? I am planning on building a new machine probably this summer, and I don't know if I should pay the premium to get NVMe or a...

Re: Putting old monitors to use

You can never have too much screen real estate, right? I had already put one of my old 17" LCD monitors to use as a second head, but there was another one sitting in the corner unused. Then I realized that: A) I still had an unused HDMI port on my GPU; and B) although the extra display is anal...

Re: Winter driving sucks!

Whats odd about that is Quebec has mandatory winter tires laws.  However that does not mean that everyone follows them, nor do I know the date which they must be installed. And if it was ice well only studded tires would help then.

Yep that's about 6 months of the year up here in Canada.

And do note that you do not need fancy specs for what you're looking to do. Basic CAD is not demanding, and for the demanding stuff you'll likely be learning in a lab with computers suited to the task. Focus on purchasing a tool that can handle being shuffled about while providing a pleasurable use...

Ancient water from underground Gobi Dessert aquifer that might possibly be remnants from old sea.  Seriously. Okay, I was not expecting to see this. Is this on a menu, bottled in a curio shop or are you logging in from your underground lair? And because I cannot resist... What is a dessert aquifer?...

One question out of curiosity. When ##% IPC gets thrown around, is that in general for everything, or is there a specific industry benchmark that's an accepted standard to say, yep that's a 35% IPC improvement, regardless of other benchmarks??  Would one of the SPEC benchmarks be it? Reason I ask, i...

Congrats!! Fresh W8 Instal vs. 8.1 and key issues

So I bought W8 Pro way back when MS had the $40 offer, and I am getting ready to do a fresh clean install on a new SSD.  Now someone told me I can not just put on W8.1 because W8 and 8.1 keys are specific. (and my key is W8) Just wondering if this is true.  Also, if so, would it be possible to put o...
