Re: Glucowise

Don't any of you have doctors to turn to for advice? I like building my own PCs, but if I were concerned about my health I would ask a certified endocrinologist, not random people on the internetz.

PS Yes, you can google stuff. So can doctors, who also have 1000s of hours of experience.

Re: Which MB for Ryzen 3900?

US$70 Asus Tuf B450M-Plus Gaming or US$360 Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero X570 I'd suggest putting the $290 difference in the bank for now. Thanks to both for your feedback. I think I'll go with a reasonably priced B450. The ROG B450 costs an extra $40 here ($140 vs $100, local prices) but has some e...

Which MB for Ryzen 3900?

I have a Crosshair VI, a 1700X and 4x16GB Samsung B-die ECC. I need to (a) upgrade to 3900X and (b) use the 1700X for my home server. So I will need a MB (I already have some cheap RAM). The prices on X570 are insane. But, I can afford it if necessary/worth it. I see the following options: 1. ROG St...

Re: Official: Ryzen 3700X and 3900X review comments

I don't see many comments on the X570 platform. This is definitely a step up from the traditional AM4 platforms and closes the gap somewhat with the HEDT platforms (number of PCIe, SATA, USB etc) but OMG the prices are insane. The Crosshair VIII starts at $400+ and the MSI godlike is $600+. Given th...

Re: AMD Navi / RDNA Topic

Anandtech reports high temps and some fan ramping issues with the stock reference cooler. While I do like designs which exhaust out the back, those sorts of issues give me pause. Aftermarket cooling solutions can sometimes take longer to arrive on the market for AMD cards as well. Apparently the bl...

Perhaps you're right. But the point I'm making is that you can't seriously use a worldwide survey as representative of people reading an english-language, US-based site for tech fans. So I don't see why everyone keeps quoting the Steam survey. If you would have set the frame of reference as only th...

Re: AMD Navi / RDNA Topic

1080p60 is the popular resolution - you can get away with a $150 RX570 for that. 1080p144 is typically the realm of competitive esports titles and those playing will likely turn down graphics settings to the point where your CPU is the primary bottleneck. However, >60fps performance is HIGHLY game ...

$350 is a price I can stomach. This looks like a good deal for people who can't afford the new normal of $500 midrange GPUs. If >30 FPS @ 4K is what we're calling "midrange" now, then well, I'm very confused. I am however very pleased that prices in some cases are going down. If I remembe...

Re: 16 COARZ.... Not announced by AMD

It seems to me that the $100 extra for double cache, 50% more cores and 100MHz more boost is a reasonable price to pay. Then again, $499, is more than I've ever paid for a CPU. At least it would be a slot-in upgrade: no MB, no RAM to buy. Convenient.

TBH I think as long as you avoid the Seagate SMR crap that's still in the distribution channels, and tweak the head unload timer if you go with any of the WD drives which have that issue, using desktop drives (or shucked externals) in a home NAS is a perfectly reasonable thing to do if you are on a...

Re: GPU, RAM and MB upgrade

The 1500X should be perfectly fine if you are going up in resolution but not in refresh rate. Your card would be faster on a 2600X and even faster on a 9900K, but the difference is likely to be modest and not worth the $$$. You'd probably need at least a 2600X to notice the difference and even then ...

I don't mind paying extra for a season pass for DLC. The amount of additional content they added in BL2 was well worth it, especially the mr.Torque Carnage campaign and Tiny Tina's assault. Those two combined were worth the season pass. I'd pay the $100. I am not, however, going to install another ...

TPU has a pretty decent number of cards tested per review. The performance/$ of an RX570 is outstanding, but this review was from October 2018 and RX 570 cards are almost $50 cheaper now than they were then! If you look at the idividual game tests for that card, 1080p 60fps is a reasonably expectat...

I need to build a cheap gaming PC for a friend. The good news is that almost anything you buy now will be faster. So, you will definitely be able to ...

Re: Frametime 8gb vs 16gb ram benchmarks?

I think I have no choice. I must get the 580 because the 570 is way worse. But I also must get the 16GB, because the trend is to increase the amount needed. So I'll settle for 1x8GB for now. And then upgrade to 16GB when needed, if needed. Some tests shows single channel isn't that bad... like thes...

Re: Frametime 8gb vs 16gb ram benchmarks?

1. RAM prices are going down from a very long period of very high prices. A 32GB kit used to cost $200, went up to $400 and is now back to about $240. And I am using the exact same kit (Corsair 3000C15 LPX) as an example. So, you won't be buying RAM at a very bad time and it might even be worth wai...

Hello, I'm trying to decide if I'm gonna settle for 2x4GB or 2x8GB for a new system I'll build. (For gaming) All tests shows that 8gb is enough and upgrading to 16gb will not give a decent advantage. Re: CHUCKULA IS GOING AMD..... CONFIRMED!!!!

I would add that although it doesn't compare with a 1080, the 560 is a surprisingly capable little GPU for 1080p gaming at medium. Most people forget how much GPU power is needed to hit 144Hz or 4k at ultra and, inversely, how much easier it is to drive 1080p 60fps at medium. PS. I suggest the open ...
