Re: Summon window to current monitor?

I don't know of a way to do this, but in case you weren't aware, Windows+Shift+Left or Right arrow will move a window between monitors. I have three monitors and in the worst case, a couple of quick taps will move the window where I want it pretty quickly.

Re: Micro Center website down?

I noticed it yesterday.

At first, I assumed it was related to the X299 launch, but given that it's coming up on 24 hours and there aren't *that* many SKUs (at least that Intel is releasing on time, ha), not sure what's going on.

Re: Core i9 vs. The Threadripper Preview

It appears from those Sisoft results that the i9 7900k is clocked natively (not overclocked) at 4 GHz/4.5 GHz boost, which is pretty high for a 10C/20T part. After all, the 6950X is 3 GHz/3.5 GHz boost and also 10C/20T. It'll be interesting if we really get a 10C part with Skylake IPC running at 4 G...

Re: Windows 8.1 "USB Printing Support"

Well, what's funny is that I think the "fixes" I did mostly didn't actually do any good. Just repeatedly rebooting until it sometimes worked would've probably accomplished the same thing. Every now and again she'd tell me it's not working and I'd come closer to throwing it all out the wind...

Re: A little help, please.....

Last time I needed to do this, I used Clonezilla (free) to clone a smaller SSD to a larger SSD. Then, in Windows, I expanded the filesystem to take up the rest of the free space. No issues doing it that way. It's been a while, but at least this is non-destructive, so you have little risk of causing ...

Re: I'm looking for a new wallet

I have a Trayvax Original which is quite small. One would think it would be uncomfortable, but it's absolutely not at all, and I keep it in my back pocket and sit on it regularly. Since wallets are such a personal thing, it's hard to tell if this would meet your requirements, but I've been very happ...

Re: Online Journalism - Where's the editor?

What about Kindle books? I find the formatting to often be horrible. I've run across books which were clearly converted to Kindle format using OCR and no one bothered to check over the results with even so much as a spell checker. There's a feature in the Kindle application to report errors, but it ...

Netgate RCC-VE 2440 and will run pfsense on it. It's $350, 6-7W power draw and fanless, and has 4 Intel gigabit ports. It's got the Atom C2358 with QuickAssist, so running at line rate shouldn't be a problem. Ouch that's a little pricey. Yeah, it is, but I'm expecting to get 8+ years out of it, jus...

I've been using a Soekris net5501 with m0n0wall for about 8 years now. It's been fantastic. I'm now needing something with more than 100 Mbit/sec connectivity, so after doing massive amounts of research, I've bought a Netgate RCC-VE 2440 and will run pfsense on it. It's $350, 6-7W power draw and fan...

I don't think I would *ever* tempt fate by mounting a drive under the motherboard like that unless I had no other choice. If the 3.5" bays didn't have 2.5" mounting holes I would've used an adapter. I've seen some fancy new mini-ITX boards where the M.2 slot is on the underside of the mot...

I pulled it up, said "cool", got distracted, came back, and they're all gone. :(

Oh, well. I didn't *really* need one, but for $10, thought it'd be worth keeping one in my spare parts box just in case.

Next time I'll be faster! Thanks for pointing it out.

I guess I'll go look at Linux again. I'm in the same camp. This is a fun topic. I worked in telecom back in the late 90s. I worked on a team of about 12 people. I was the only person with a computer science degree. I have HVAC air filters and Rid-X. Only 88 items to go and I win.

Articulating monitor arm for 30" monitors

Does anyone know of a monitor arm (articulating, clamp-on style) which will definitely work with a U3011 monitor (30", 20.4 lbs w/out stand)? Dell claims their MSA14 dynamic arm will work, but I just tried it and I couldn't get it to satisfactorily work---the monitor kept tipping forward regard...

I've used Squid on Linux and FreeBSD to do similar things. There's a Squid port that runs on Windows. While I've not run it on Windows, it does appear to have some decent Windows integration, like the ability to run as a service. Squid has a lot of capabilities that you won't need (reverse proxy, ca...

Re: Windows 8.1 "USB Printing Support"

How often did you reboot during your troubleshooting? Might be that once it gets stuck, it can't get unstuck without a reboot so changing ports is pointless without rebooting too? Lots of reboots. It's got an SSD and is pretty quick to reboot, so I've been doing it between most/all steps. A few mor...

Re: Windows 8.1 "USB Printing Support"

You may have already tried this, but try to limit the number of USB devices plugged in. Try to isolate it in the USB port cluster; essentially, try to get it onto it's own 'channel'. I had tried that, but to be sure, I just took it to the next level by: 1. Trying every single USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 po...

Windows 8.1 "USB Printing Support"

My wife has a Silhouette Cameo USB device (it's basically like a plotter, but instead of printing, it cuts paper, cardstock, etc.). It's worked fine on Windows 7 for a year with no issues. She asked me to move it to her Windows 8.1 desktop. It was a bit strange at first, not seeing the device, but a...

BF4 Browser Plugin

I read in the Shortbread earlier this week that BF4 was free for 100+ hours on Origin this week. I figured I'd get it, play through the single-player/campaign, and see how I liked it. So, after downloading the massive thing, I click on Play. Usually, in most games, that starts the game. Not here. It...
