Re: Recs for college student laptops

I think the Helios 300 is a pretty sweet buy for the money. It went on sale for $850 last black Friday on Amazon and might do so again. https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7 ... B06Y4GZS9C

Re: Intel i7-8700 vs 8700k

I'd probably go for the non-k variant and wait for non-Z motherboards if you want to save some cash and have similar performance without an overclock. From reports I've heard though, that could take a few months :-/

Re: Your Personal Smart Phone Evolution

Motorola Droid a855 (Verizon) iphone 4 (Boost Mobile) GS3 (Verizon) GS5 (Verizon) GS7 (Verizon) The GS3 was the first "good enough" phone for me. I don't use my phone for much, mostly work, maps, and pictures. I've been surprised how much the camera has evolved on my devices since I starte...

Re: IT ticketing software

I currently use Jira at work. I like it quite a bit because you can tie it into Slack and get notifications there. Pretty easy to setup your own workflow and overall easy to use. Recommended.

Haha, how long has it been since we originally filled it out? Over a year? I just got mine in the mail yesterday, I never really expected it to come.

I've been looking at a bunch of 1440p monitors like the one you bought. Please post your impressions about gaming experience on that Viewsonic when you get it all together, I'm looking forward to it. Hope the build goes smooth!

What are you doing 15 July 2017? You can even meet him in person (I hope)

The trip is too expensive for me this year. Someday I'll make the trip it to the famous TR BBQ! Post pictures :)

For  steam  games just copy the steam-->steamapps-->common folder and then verify integrity of game cache before you run the game. Works every time.

Bought a SB6141 last month. Bright led lights and rock solid so far at 60/5. For the speeds I need, it's perfect for taking that pesky $10/mo lease charge away :D

Re: Is my VC dieing?

I recently had a similar issue with my gtx970. I would get sporadic crashes when playing games or watching movies once every ~2-4 hours. I re-installed drivers, checked for viruses, reverted windows, nothing seemed to help. At first I thought it was my gtx970 since I bought it refurbished from EVGA ...

Wow just read the article. At the bottom it has this update: Update: Since this story was posted, Mr Marsala has claimed that his original post was a hoax and written as a marketing stunt, but that it had happened to a client of his in 2006. He's either telling the truth or trying to cover up a big ...

Re: What's the best electric toothbrush?

I have an Oral-B Triumph and for me it is a vast improvement over standard brushes. I did not take care of my teeth growing up and now I have to live with crappy teeth. I switched to an electric toothbrush because I was experiencing receding gums on my back molars even though I was flossing 4/week a...

Odd CPU voltage behavior w/overclock

tl;dr even though CPU voltage is set to 1.4125 in the bios will not go above 1.320 in manual mode once booted into win 8.1. Automatic/offset works fine and can scale to over 1.4v w/o problems. Do I have hardware issues? My current build: AMD x3 720 be Sapphire HD 7850 2gb M5a97 mobo 600w PSU Raidmax...

Re: Need help choosing upgrade components for son's PC

Since they don't have any drivers for windows 8.1, I wonder if you could just download the windows 7 drivers and see if that works. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=&ProductID=3145&ProdId=3145 You could at least update the bios to the latest version since those sort of...

Re: Do you use Blu-Ray on your PC?

My main rig has a DVD drive and is my htpc and family computer. We use it quite a bit to watch movies from Redbox, burn home DVD's, etc. It's not going away anytime soon at my house! If I built a new system today I would at least include a DVD drive. I still use it every now and again, and I think i...
