Re: TRFrankenbot for COVID-19

Just realized I've been folding without the passkey and whatnot. I had just added Team 2630 thinking that was enough. I just started folding last week but have already earned 1.5 million points, with probably 95+% of that coming from my RTX 2080 (I limited my CPU folding slot to 2 threads because F@...

Re: Food for thought: The number 8

I have noticed weird things about the number 8. Examples: The day Trump got elected Narendra Modi giving orders to do crazy things like blasting a satellite out of the sky and demonetizing currency German Chancellor Merkel allowing refugees to flood Germany All of these have two things in common: d...

Re: Anyone recommend a 1440p monitor with minimum backlight bleed?

From what I have read, even premium IPS monitors are subject to the IPS lottery. Some will have next to no backlight bleed, others will have terrible BLB or even inconsistent colour temperature across different areas of the panel. I'm about to play this lottery for the first time with the LG 27850. ...

Re: Anyone here using an Intel 660p SSD?

Gaming is the heaviest use case that I have for my PC, I don't need the I/O grunt of a more expensive drive. - I don't edit photos or videos - I don't compile code on this machine - I don't regularly copy large filesets For $104 Cad (79 US), it seems to be a great value, and the downside of the driv...

Re: Anyone here using an Intel 660p SSD?

Ordered the 660p 1TB today from Amazon, had $25 in random credits for trying their photo app, amazon assistant, and free audible trial, so it came out to a cool $104 CAD before tax. I'm sure it will be a nice step up from the Samsung 840 (non-evo) which has been serving as my system drive for the la...

I suppose that you can add another adapter to the chain to make a true frankenadapter. Your dual 3.5mm + a dual to single 3.5mm adapter to one of the "car themed" adapters. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Headphone-Splitter-Computer-Smartphone-Headset/dp/B01MQZ2023/ref=sr_1_9?...

To get google dialer on a non-Pixel / Nexus, you can go to 3rd party apk sites to get it. https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/ or google "download google phone apk" and choose your download source. I did that on my HTC one M8 years ago and didn't have any problems For sec...

I would go with something no higher than a 980/1060/1660 or RX 580 with your 3570k. You will be massively bottlenecked with something higher like a 1080 / 2060. Source: Me, a guy who put a GTX 1080 in a system with an i7-3820 and a 1080p 120 Hz monitor. You could probably score a deal on a used 1060...

Re: Postpone New Buld? Graphics cards... sigh

The 2060 is still overpriced if you look at GTX X60 card price history, but that is probably what I would go for if I was looking to upgrade from something lower. The 2080 and 2080ti are absurdly priced for what they are. I'll be keeping my 1080 longer than I thought I would because of the absurd RT...

Re: Frametime and memory speed correlation?

2) Why are you running DDR3-800? That's DDR2-esque speeds. You should be at 1600MHz (min) to 2133Mhz on DDR3. IIRC 1866 was the $/Performance sweet spot at the time of Haswell. If you're starving the CPU of half the memory bandwidth it was designed for, you're certainly not doing it any favors. I u...

You will be massively bottlenecked by your 2600k with a 1080ti.

I had an i7 3820 (basically 2600k on X79 platform) and it couldn't keep up with the 1080, huge performance dips in games like BF1.

+1 to CPU upgrade before dropping money on a new GPU.

Re: Why do USB connectors (almost) never fit well?

It does seem that, if the USB port is in a location where I can't see it clearly (e.g. back of a computer case), I may spend a minute flipping the male connector over and over several times trying to get it to insert correctly (no jokes, please). Of course, that could be attributable to my own pers...
