Re: New monitors besides the $2000 4K 144Hz ones coming soon?

I wouldn't expect them to be maxed out with my current or next setup, they were just the unreleased ones I wanted because they checked all the boxes. I'm thinking 1440p IPS with high refresh rate (preferably with HDR and G-Sync... The former isn't a must) and a secondary 4K one that's 32" unles...

New monitors besides the $2000 4K 144Hz ones coming soon?

Like a lot of people I was looking forward to the 4K 144Hz HDR monitors for the two years or however long between them being announced as "soon" and then actually coming out. The past two or so months I've been seeing lots of the 2K IPS monitors on sale... Are new ones on the way at COMPUT...

Re: The Ryzen 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G CPUs

What's the DIMM support like? Or, better question, I guess, how can I tell whether I can populate all four slots? I'm thinking of putting together a 2400G system for a friend. I'm on a budget (hence considering a iGPU in the first place) and was going to go with 8 GB of RAM, but want the option to e...

Re: The Ryzen 2200G and Ryzen 5 2400G CPUs

What are the POST/Boot times like with the 2200/2400G Ryzen chips? There were problems early on with taking 30+ seconds for monitors to light up or more than a minute to boot Windows off an SSD.

ETA on the other Coffee Lake chipsets?

There have been some pretty reliable rumors about the not super interesting other Coffee Lake desktop CPUs that are coming out sometime in the near future. Is there an event or specific date people are expecting them to launch?

Best CPU/motherboard for pairing with some DDR3?

I've got 32GB of DDR3-2400 in an old Haswell system. It could do everything it needs to fine with half that memory (there's four sticks). Are there any good options for putting together a second quad-core system re-using the RAM? Picking up a second Haswell core CPU looks like it'll cost about the s...

Can anyone recommend a cheap/reasonably price case that'll take a 280mm rad? Preferably top or back mounted for exhaust.

I've mostly switched to Amazon and/or Microcenter lately for the reasons you mentioned prior to the bank fraud accusations this past week. If they don't show by Wednesday I'm just going to cancel and pick one up when it's no longer just yet another (hopefully potential) paper launch.

Re: Optane 900P SSDs Launch Today

After seeing the reviews go up I pre-ordered one from Newegg. They were expected to arrive today, but they haven't changed the order status...and of course Newegg's live chat is down for maintenance tonight...hoping this isn't another Vega, Coffee Lake, Ryzen(?), Geforce 1000 series, etc, "laun...

Re: New drive suggestions?

Assuming you stick with lower RPM, I don't think you will get a comparable speed boost this time, as I believe the 8TB models use more platters with only modest increase in linear bit density. Also make sure you get a PMR drive, not SMR. Performance of SMR drives for non-sequential writes is abysma...

Re: New drive suggestions?

I went with the 8TB Seagate off Newegg. Got it for $239, so it was a pretty good deal.

I've got an Intel 750 400GB as my system drive and will use the 4TB drive as a temporary backup until I get a real solution. Thanks, guys!

New drive suggestions?

I've got a WD Green 4 TB from a few years back. It's starting to get low on space and I'd like to replace it with something larger. It replaced a 1 TB WD Green and that provided a very nice boost in read and write speed, so I'd like to see a similar bump in speed again. 8 TB in capacity is about wha...

I found completely by accident that messing around in advanced power plans (sub option under "Balanced", etc) that you can set maximum and minimum clock rates/percentages. Mine got stuck at 4.2GHz again the other day when I was messing around with something or other and that fixed it.

Elderly person in need of new gaming mouse. (Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 upgrade)

I've been using an MS Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 for probably 15+ years now. I probably repurchased three and warranty replaced about as many through MS. My current one has had a wonky scroll wheel (it would just decide to scroll on it's own one tick sometimes) and started taking "click and hold...

Re: SpeedStep broken?

It was a new version of Gigabyte's video card OC'ing software, I think. I reloaded Windows and its idling at 800Mhz again. They didn't make any meaningful changes in any revision of the software that I could tell, so I'm using an old version I had saved.Thank you guys. :)

I decided to take one for the team and make sure that Zen turns out amazing by spending a bunch of money upgrading my 4690K to a 7700K yesterday. The Silicon Lottery smiled upon me and the new chip runs at 5.0Ghz at 1.32v.  Anyway, starting about two weeks to a month ago the CPU clock stopped reduci...

Re: High wattage PSUs with 0 RPM mode or super low noise?

I didn't mean a unit that had no fan and was entirely passively cooled, just that it would be inaudible because of the fan being off entirely or spinning at low RPM when the CPU and/or GPU aren't under heavy load and a lot of power is being used. I was aware the feature existed, but haven't been sho...

High wattage PSUs with 0 RPM mode or super low noise?

I'm looking for PSU suggestions. I've got a Corsair 750D Airflow case, so the PSU is mounted in the bottom and isolated from the rest of the system. I've got a 4690K running at 1.3v with a H115i CLC and Geforce 1080. I'd guess under load with everything else thrown in I'm not using much more than 50...

Re: i5 Has well 4.5 GHz going to 4 sticks of RAM?

I popped in the two new sticks today. Amazon dropped them off an hour before I had to be at work. I went into the UEFI and saw "32768 GB memory." Crazy when I think back to having less than 32 MB of RAM. I didn't remember my board only had moving latches on one side of the slots or realize...

Re: i5 Has well 4.5 GHz going to 4 sticks of RAM?

How likely am I to have problems if I add two more matched sticks of ddr-3 2400 to my Asus Z97-AR? It's running stably at 4.5 at 2.7v on a corsair air cooler. I'm still dialing down the voltage to see what the 3.9 un core is stable at but it doesn't crash at 2.5v and doesn't seem to exceed ~2v. I r...

Re: Corsair Obsidian 750D & H115i while waiting for Kaby Lake?

I had considered those, but they were more money than I wanted to spend. If the price comes down a bit I may get purple ones assuming they're available. Are they PWM? That's the only thing I didn't like about the fans I got, but BIOS controls work well enough. I didn't need all the room, but Ive alw...

Re: Corsair Obsidian 750D & H115i while waiting for Kaby Lake?

I ended up grabbing a 750D and H115i at Micro Center. The extra space is really nice. I measured and I knew I'd have enough space to keep putting my 360 controller on top of the case. I replaced the fans the H115i came with with two Corsair SP140 red LED ones. The one in the back with a another SP14...

Re: Using older cards with 1000 Series cards as primary?

You have x16 lanes of PCIe v3.0 off the CPU for both Geforce cards. With both slots operating as x8 neither of cards will be starved for bandwidth if your concerned. The last time (2015?) TechPowerUp checked on scaling the hit was 1-5%. I know, but the Intel 750 PCIe SSD I've got in the second slot...

Using older cards with 1000 Series cards as primary?

Has anyone come across some tests to see how practical keeping your existing GPU installed when picking up a 1000 series one yet? I know the consensus with using a x50GT series Geforce for PhsyX when you got a x70GTX or x80GTX was "don't bother", but does that hold with the 960GTX and bett...
