Re: Video card prices

Prices have been a slow decline for about 2 weeks. The used market is also on a slow decline. Some used models are in a slightly faster decline like the gtx 1070ti. I assume it's because many miners projected to never hit ROI with them.

Re: DDR4 3200 - CL14 - To be or not to be

There is a Moana joke in their somewhere  She likes Shiny, but also likes her system to kick ass like mine. Now she is on the same CPU as me. Granted, I'm not sure she would notice the difference of the low latency in the near future lol. Was just hoping someone had feedback on the real world ...

Re: DDR4 3200 - CL14 - To be or not to be

Yep, I'm aware of how RAM latencies work (albeit, a bit rusty), very good overview explanation of them. These were specs I actually cared about too much back in the day. I should have mentioned that I would be using 3200 regardless, no plans on using a slower frequency and hoping tghter timings wil...

DDR4-3000 CAS 15 for $165 Not sure where you find out if RAM is Samsung B Die or not. (It's so dumb that's a requirement for higher clocked RAM on Ryzen) These are not Samsung B's. These are probably Hynix. Easiest way to get B's is to get 3000c14 or 3200c14. Also going to 3600 or faster pretty muc...

The intel p3700 had a total host write of 700 GB. Running this diagnostic scan is going to write more to this disk than that.

I'm using an r9 fury at 2560x1440. I don't think it would be powerful enough to drive 3440x1440 at a reasonable framerate without dropping a lot of settings.

Congrats! Sounds like everything went well. I had a bizarrely problem-free experience myself, replacing a Sandy Bridge-E motherboard and CPU with a Ryzen 1700X. Everything just... worked, no need to re-install Windows 10. My only real problem when I went from x79 the x299 was the mobo manufacturer'...

I'm kinda curius about total system power usage myself, but that doesn't really tell me exactly how much of that is used by the cpu. Re: I might be ready to buy a new gaming laptop

Good questions. I'm seeking a laptop because I travel, sometimes 4 or 5 times in a year. An SFF with external monitor won't do. I'll cut back on my 3 or 4 bay requirement if I can get more SSD capacity into one or two 2.5" bays. But I don't think I can compromise down to a single 2.5" bay...

If I was you, I'd go with Coffee Lake for the extra cores. You had initially mentioned a 6850K...think of an 8700K as getting a 50+ percent off discount. The HEDT platform's other advantages shouldn't be a big deal for the typical gaming machine. 6850's regularly go for 350-370. https://pcpartpicke...
