Also, which vBIOS used in the benchmarks for the 5600XT? They used both, fyi. Almost all the performance comes from the memory clock change. "Meanwhile, I suspect AMD’s motive may be a bit more straightforward: beating the now-$299 RTX 2060. As it so happens, the factory overclocked Sapphire P...

It's the same problem that some of the budget socket-AM4 motherboards are encountering. Higher-end boards are more likely to have been equipped with ...

Questions about 24 - 4 lanes of PCIe 4.0 versus 48 - 4 lanes of PCIe 3.0 aside, $foo Lake-X's big claim to fame versus the 3900x is quad-channel memory support. And I've got a question pertaining to that: while nobody can speak for Cascade Lake-X yet since the hardware isn't out, is there an actual...

Re: Cascade Lake-X HEDT to go up against Threadripper 3

A bit theoretical however, because PCIe 4.0 devices aren't very common yet. Even then, you'll probably be using x16 lanes on your GPU still... for whatever reason. Just because of how the physical connectors are set up. PCIe 4.0 2x lane M.2 drives don't really exist either. PCIe 4.0 SSDs seem to be...

I don't remember where I read it, but under load a 3900x apparently doesn't pull more power than a 2700x thanks to its die shrink. People ran 2700x's in B350 and B450 motherboards all the time, so unless your board has a reputation for a badly underbuilt VRM it will probably work fine with proper c...

Honestly that is a processor that I'd likely get a new board for.

Is the gaming 5 even going to be able to handle an overclocked 3950x? Without an actual review it's hard to say how much power it's going to consume. The good news is you have until September, since your looking at the 16 core.
