Re: Is anyone recording internet radio anymore?

Back around 2005 I used to use Xoteck's RipCast. Pretty solid product but I think the company no longer exists, so you might not be able to buy a license. I think it could handle multiple shoutcast streams pretty easily, though. Had features to dump to separate files and auto-tag the MP3s.

Re: Low end gaming system.

If your friend REALLY wants to try Linux, but the primary purpose of this machine is for gaming, don't mess around with dual boot - just have them use a live CD/USB or do a persistent install in VirtualBox. A lot cleaner, especially if they end up deciding that Linux is not for them.

Re: Final Upgrade

we're at the point where 128GB SSDs are actually cheaper than the nastiest mechanical drives they can source, and a laptop bumped and jolted around is the very worst place for mechanical storage in terms of survival anyway. Exactly! And yet they continue to source junk 5400RPM, low-cache mechanical...

Re: Final Upgrade

I've found C2D/C2Q systems to be perfectly adequate recommendations for many of my generic-office-task-performing clientele. Any Wolfdale CPU combined with a cheap SSD can really hold its own against modern equivalents, and with the price of refurbed Win7 SFF systems these days it's a no brainer. OP...

Just a DVD-RW, and only because it's a legacy part from my old machine. Hardly ever use it for anything other than burning boot discs.

Re: DAC question

Just bought a Schiit Modi less than a month ago to drive some Paradigm Mini Monitors... absolutely loving it so far. I didn't have incredibly high expectations for the thing, but it sure makes my speakers sing - and that is all that I care about. Great investment.

another question: when you used PNPutil, you had obviously already applied the image - were you booted into WinPE when you were installing new drivers into the driver store?

Sorry to toss an anchor in here, but I want to thank you both/all for posting this history. Re: Rawr: SB-E & x79 Build

Uggh. Yeah, you can't /generalize that. I suspect HP did that by reusing that image multiple times. It is possible to have sysprep SkipRearm . You can find a handy guide here . SkipRearm was meant for situations where the hardware was the same. The retained activation status isn't going to be kept ...

Re: Rawr: SB-E & x79 Build

Here's another hunch as to what the problem may be: Has this image exceeded the rearm limit, because it was originally an OEM image?

Re: Rawr: SB-E & x79 Build

Based on where you were in the setup the installation of hardware was complete. The image purged all installed instances of the hardware, but that doesn't mean it purges the drivers themselves. The drivers remain in the driver store and can be used to re-install the hardware during the hardware det...

It is most likely a 3rd party background service that is causing the machine to hang. See if this link helps you find an error log that more clearly defines the issue and then return to us. :) Link and Link Thank you, Ryu. Can you tell me how I can access the "$windows.~bt\Sources\Panther"...

That's a lovely machine. Looks almost identical to my much-loved dc5800 SFFs. I work from observations and my gut, as opposed to Ryu's extensive documentation, so please feel free to disregard my comments... Generally when I see messages like that, it means that the preinstall OS and the bootloader...

Can you provide a little more detail about your situation? What is your imaging source and destination? Did you use sysprep (sounds like you did)? The models of the two PCs would be helpful as well. Is the source PC still intact? Sure. This is a brand new HP Compaq 6300 Pro small form factor system...

I CM7'd my Droid Incredible, and never looked back. It was leaps and bounds ahead of the stock HTC firmware in every aspect - and despite the quirks and steep learning curve, I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone dissatisfied with their stock phone.

Re: upgrading my wife's PC - FINALLY!

I would say be prepared to be dissapointed with Intel HD2000 graphics for gaming. You would be well served by a Radeon HD7750 for the type of games you're talking about. Radeon HD7770 has been down in the $100AR range a few times. That's close enough to Radeon HD7750 pricing for me to recommend the...

Re: upgrading my wife's PC - FINALLY!

My critique would be that you should have layed an upg path for the CPU and invested more (from the budget not over the budget) into a discrete video card (nothing fancy, like a 100-140 bucks card) since u get this system for gaming. I don't particularly agree with the choice of case and PSU but th...

Thanks for the feedback! I'm not quite sure what you mean by: layed an upg path for the CPU Since this motherboard supports both SB and IB, I can always upgrade the CPU later but again it was just a build to "bring her into the modern era" and even into the general reach of something that ...
