Re: New Build, won't POST

I'm sorry to tell you this but I think it's the BIOS issue - at least it sounds exactly like what happened awhile back when a friend was building a PC and ran into the problem. :(

Re: Mass Effect 1 or Torchlight?

I'd go with Torchlight, although ME is a good game as well (not a great one when compared to some, but good enough one to re-play at least three-four times nonetheless).

Re: A decent all-around case, not too expensive?

It's a standard ATX, isn't it? The PSU being at the bottom confused me into thinking it was BTX for a while. Yeah, it's an ATX case - the PSU is just bottom-mounted for slightly improved stability (or at least I think that's why it's down there). How many actual fans are in the case when I buy it? ...

Re: cooling recomendations

As someone who recently had issues with an i3-530 and cooling, I can say that the stock cooler is more than enough to cool the CPU provided it's installed properly (although you should make sure not to use too much thermal paste -as I did-).

Re: Is a premium case worth it?

I have a pair of Antec 1030 cases that are going on 10 years old... I can't count the number of builds that have gone through the two of them. Worth it, to me. I have to say that, even though it might seem fanboi-ish, I plan on using Antec cases for all my builds - every one I've seen has been good...

Have you looked at the Antec 300? For the money it's quite a nice case.

I ended up reseating the heatsink and while it did not take care of the difference in cores it did bring down the temperatures to comfortable, normal levels. :)

Re: $950 i5 Gaming System

Well, I know it's been awhile but I did end up reseating the heatsink... something that caused my temperatures to drop from an idle of 25-30 and a load of 66-90 to an idle of 18-21 and a load of 40-51! Pics are forthcoming (I've just got to find the cable to download the camera). :)

Re: Core #2 is about 10C hotter than Core #0, Is this a problem?

90C at stock clocks? Yeah, that's sounds waay too high unless your case has almost no airflow but even then it sounds high. The case I went with currently has seven independent fans -not including those that are on the PSU, CPU and the GPU- so it has good airflow. Which program are you using to che...

In retrospect, yeah. Do you think that's the issue and if so should I open up the case and reseat the heatsink?

Re: $950 i5 Gaming System

Well I stress tested it with Prime95 and the cores of the i3-530 got to around 90C after a few minutes (I stopped after 5 minutes because 90C is a bit high). Now the highest temperature I've seen in-game, Crysis to be exact, is 66C, a more comfortable number, but that's still a bit higher than revie...

Re: Core #2 is about 10C hotter than Core #0, Is this a problem?

The real question is: why do you care? As long as it's not going hurt the system I'm fine with it, but I just wanted to make sure it's not an issue. Is the CPU working incorrectly? If this is an issue, yes. If this is not an issue, no. Topic moved to OC/Cooling forum. Opps, I didn't see that there ...

Re: Core #2 is about 10C hotter than Core #0, Is this a problem?

Pretty sure it's normal for i5/i7s. Mine also has 5-10C difference across the four cores. This is actually an i3-530, the real cores are Core #0 and Core #2 with "Cores" #1 and #4 being hypertreads, if that makes any difference. Still, if all of the "i" series has this issue tha...

Core #2 is about 10C hotter than Core #0, Is this a problem?

I just put together the new system and everything is going great with one possible exception - one core of the CPU, Core #2, is running about 5-10C hotter than the other. Does anyone know if this is a major issue or could I ignore it for the time being? It's an i3-530 that is on the stock clock and ...

Do you know anyone there who could buy a DRM free version of the song and send it to you? It seems to me that this would be one of the easier ways to get it.

No, because that key is tied to the account. Might as well throw away the media and key, if it's like Valve's games - entering the key from a retail disc also entitles you to download the game if you need to reinstall. Except you should keep the media and the key so you can prove you own the game i...

Now with the new build, the i3-530 and the 5770, I was able to upgrade to this monitor . It seems to be a good price for what I'm getting and I think the PC should be able to handle the 1920x1080 rez - if that's not true then I guess I'll drop down to a 1680x1050 screen (most likely not the Dell tho...
