Re: Strategy Games

AOE3 is prettier but gameplay-wise, some things are just "missing" compared with AOE2, in my opinion. But I enjoy both, and AOE3 as a $10 add-on to AOE2-HD is definitely a steal. First I've heard of this AOE2-HD, I'm gonna have to check that out! I recently got into a RTS mode again after ...

Re: Vinyl LPs... who still listens to (or buys) them?

Heh, I guess we are 20 years apart... Side note, most music I do love is from 60s-80s, rock-n-roll in its heyday. So I can see how somebody would say that I would appreciate said music better if I had it from a quality vinyl source instead of downloaded from the internets. But it goes back to the qu...

Re: Vinyl LPs... who still listens to (or buys) them?

I just don't understand.. I mean yes, I get the hipster/nostalgia/"because-I-can" factor of it, because let's face it, we're all geeks in some way... but! Vinyl as a medium is just so awfully defect-prone that it makes no sense to use it as your primary storage *or* playback medium. The ve...

Re: re: Tom'sHardware.com - sold out?

Yeah they were sold to a big media conglomerate called "BestOfMedia". They still have somewhat OK system-guides and occasional reviews, but they're definitely way below TR in my list of reliable tech review sites. ;)

Re: Skydrive space lowering, act now.

Right on dudes, I just took advantage as well. I also discovered that you can easily link multiple accounts; I had one associated with my personal email and another with work. However, when I logged into the work one, I did not have the option to take the 25GB free upgrade, so it's just got 7. This ...

Re: Getting a new TV, what brand to look at?

If you can, look for a model that's 120Hz instead of just 60Hz; the difference in motion-blur is noticeable when you're watching certain things. I've got a Vizio that I picked up Black Friday 2010, and even though we're fairly happy with it, I notice a difference in quality when looking at friends/r...

Re: Anybody use Sleeping pills?

Being awake while under the influence of Ambien will result in ... random and erratic actions without rhyme or reason ... E.G.: A sudden need to cook something and it's not improbable that fires might result from your actions. LOL... I know it's not really something to laugh at but I've had persona...

I second your complaint. Yep, I miss it too. The bastards! Will Windows 8 bring some of this kind of common-sense functionality back to us power-users? Here's hoping...

Good lord, what in the world is this guy on? Obviously never heard of the K.I.S.S. principle. Anyway... I like Cyberpower UPS's too, we have them at work for our desktops and they've been good.

Re: A Good System Cleaner for WinXP That Is Actually Legitim

At least from the sound of it, the OP was lazy and now he needs to pay back the principle+interests. All those times backup's, defrag's, and uninstalling unused crap that should be done and not performed all these years? Huh? Years? What are you talking about? I don't think I've had this system yet...

Re: A Good System Cleaner for WinXP That Is Actually Legitim

Well I guess I would do that backup if it could be done. All of my drives are already too full with not even enough space to defrag them, much less backup everything onto...somewhere hehehe OTOH Jesus Christ, is the risk really that large? ??? Not to mention backing up all of everything would proba...

Re: PC for granpa

That's a weird-ass combo deal... a mobo + extern drive? But yeah, the price is killer... And then you have the external enclosure that you can use yourself! Anyway, I agree with the 4GB RAM though, because old people need things to be *really easy* and that often means having a *LOT* of startup-item...
