Re: Ryzen 3D Mark Fire Strike scores better with Power Saver profile

Come to think of it, does it do the same with Time Spy? I'd expect Time Spy to be far better at using 4-8 cores. (Ryzen also supposedly learns from what it's been doing or sommat so I'd have to poke around myself.) Performance difference with Timespy was negligible between the different power profi...

Re: Ryzen 3D Mark Fire Strike scores better with Power Saver profile

Yep. CPU at 3.9, GPU at stock: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/12898500 CPU at 3.7, GPU at 2000/5500: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/12901096 So while combined score definitely seems to benefit more from CPU OC than GPU OC, it scores higher with Power Saver profile regardless. For reference, this is OC'ed on bot...

Ryzen 3D Mark Fire Strike scores better with Power Saver profile

...As opposed to High Performance, Balanced or the AMD provided Ryzen Balanced power settings profiles. Combined score is a pretty dramatic increase, I would normally get ~6,000-6,500 but now it's over 7,500:

Hopefully Apple actually tested the thermals and power phases for this AIO monster of theirs. 180W Xeon + 300W Vega, with 128GB DDR4 ECC and 4GB of PCIe NVME SSDs? On the upside, this thing will be an effective space heater for those cold, northern winters.

Ah.....................

Memories!

I had a Phillips/Magnavox Hi-Fi VHS back in the late 90's to early 2000's. By the time the PS2 came around I pretty much abandoned VHS for DVD in home theater use.

Re: Ryzen to the occasion

You guys are having to do WAY WAY too much work to get things working how you want. I just could not put up with this crap. I sincerely hope you guys are happy with your purchases because I know I wouldn't be if I were you. Sometimes it's fun to fiddle around with hardware configs and BIOS settings...

Re: Ryzen to the occasion

I installed the F4 BIOS via QFlash and a USB thumb drive. 'Tis normally better to do it that way anyhow. AGESA 1.004a allowed me to OC my RAM from 2400 to 2666 without a lethal amount of voltage (on stock voltage, actually) and it seems that in addition to having HPET disabled, I score better in the...

Re: DX12 seems to be broken with Ryzen especially when using GeForce

Edit: There is a part one to this article somewhere where it shows a massive difference in RoTR performance in DX11 vs 12 on GeForce however that is not in this particular article. Two FPS difference means broken? How many million FPS do you need to stop crying about gaming performance of Zen, DX12 ...

DX12 seems to be broken with Ryzen in a few situations

http://www.techspot.com/article/1374-amd-ryzen-with-amd-gpu/ In certain situations, Ryzen performs worse in DX12 especially when paired with a GeForce GPU. Hopefully AMD will help nVidia optimize their DX12 drivers on Ryzen as GTX 1080/1070/1060s are the highest selling GPUs currently. Edit: Updated...

Re: AotS Ryzen patch

I don't want to be mean or anything, I really want AMD to succeed here, but it seems like what we have is Intel CPUs working really well out of the box, but we'll have to wait for game devs to patch games to maximize performance on Ryzen. That seems to be a tall order unfortunately, since it's just...

So apparently there is a technical issue where AotS performance tanks on 6 and 8 core CPUs (both Intel and AMD) as it displays added detail for higher core counts:

Ashes of the Singularity, one of the games to paint a very unflattering image of Ryzen gaming performance, has been patch and it increases performance by ~20% on Ryzen:

Re: 3DMark Combined Test score variance very high

Doubt it. AMD claims a 20C offsest between tJunction and tCTL for X CPUs however since my CPU is under a Corsair H60i I need to run a Prime95 stress test to get temperatures over 80(-20C, so 60C per AMD's claimed offset betwen tJunction and tCTL).

So I guess everyone is getting their collective **** together. Most importantly AMD, I suppose. I'm in the top 3% of Ryzen builds in UserBenchMark: http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/3219849 103% for CPU score. For what it's worth, the average of all i7 5960X baselines is 91% and 6900K 100% even. Now only if Ryzen could overclock as well as Haswell... :( Edit: Top 1% in PassMark CPU test. WT...

Re: Ryzen 5 - Your Choice?

Unfortunately I don't think there's much benefit in the Ryzen 5, in the same way there's not much benefit in the slower i5 CPUs. Essentially there are three types of user: ⋅ Heavy multitasker who needs all the cores; This is where Ryzen 7 shines, since it's effectively a viable replacemen...

Unfortunately I already splurged on the 1800X although if I did get a Ryzen 5 it would be the 1600X as its ability to hit 4+ GHz on all cores should in theory be greater.

Re: Ryzen to the occasion

My opinion so far on Ryzen 1800X versus i5 6600K... I came from an i5 6600K on a GA Z170 HD3 board which I ran 24/7 at 4.2 GHz with RAM at 2666/timings 15 15 15 30. Suicide runs in 3DMark were done at 4.5 GHz and RAM at 2800 (timings identical). RAM at 3000 proved unstable. I run my 1800X on a GA AB...

Re: Ryzen to the occasion

Sensors for the 1700 should be accurate. Supposedly AMD made a 20 C offset between tJunction and tCTL numbers for the 1700X / 1800X for some reason, thus temperatures are actually 20 C lower than what's reported. I hope so anyhow, seeing Prime 95 had me in the low 90's for a FMA stress test and mid ...
