Re: Nvidia Titan V

Maybe at 720P and 1080P, perhaps 1440P as well... Doubtful many modern, well threaded games would at 4K though.

Re: Nvidia Titan V

Part 1 of the Anandtech review is up (future part pending): https://www.anandtech.com/show/12170/nvidia-titan-v-preview-titanomachy Obliterates the Titan Xp in over all frame rates but the 99th percentile is pretty close, possibly due to drivers or the fact that the ROP count is the same. Either way...

Re: Nvidia Titan V

It doesn't enjoy nearly the same level of dominance in 3DMark as it does in Superposition, however. Not that it makes AMD any more competitive in the >700 dollar GPU market.

Now that Zen has saturated market... Is it safe to say AMD has returned to form?

Zen has now saturated all markets, excluding Mobile (which should be by the end of the year). Between Ryzen 3-7, Threadripper, Epyc, and the next gen Zen+/Zen 2 (to use the same chipset as Zen 1), does AMD have any chance of achieving "a double digit percentage share of the market?" (I do ...

Re: Frametimes: which uArch is the fastest?

Cache tends to provide for better performance, regardless of architecture. In fact, Broadwell-E is (clock for clock) still the best architecture for games in most scenarios, only beaten in certain instances by Kaby or Skylake-X because of their ability to clock a good bit higher.

Re: Do you use the Windows "Documents" folder?

I myself do not use the My Documents library for storing documents. Rather, I follow a strict C:\home\<username> (or C:\home\root for admin) convention. In the <username> subfolder I will have subfolders doc (for documents), img (for images), wav (for music files), mpg (for movie files) and bin (for...

Bad News: Only just barely at twice the power consumption.

Vega FE Fire Strike, on par with GTX 1080

This has been blowing up reddit/r/amd and WCCFTech; Fellow acquired a Vega FE and ran it in 3D Mark, getting a score on par with a GTX 1080: https://disqus.com/by/klaudiuszkaczmarzyk/ Vega FE acheived a graphics score of 22,916. My GTX 1080 at 2012/5500 gets 23,000+ for reference: http://www.3dmark....

Re: Ryzen 3D Mark Fire Strike scores better with Power Saver profile

Come to think of it, does it do the same with Time Spy? I'd expect Time Spy to be far better at using 4-8 cores. (Ryzen also supposedly learns from what it's been doing or sommat so I'd have to poke around myself.) Performance difference with Timespy was negligible between the different power profi...

Re: Ryzen 3D Mark Fire Strike scores better with Power Saver profile

Yep. CPU at 3.9, GPU at stock: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/12898500 CPU at 3.7, GPU at 2000/5500: http://www.3dmark.com/fs/12901096 So while combined score definitely seems to benefit more from CPU OC than GPU OC, it scores higher with Power Saver profile regardless. For reference, this is OC'ed on bot...

...As opposed to High Performance, Balanced or the AMD provided Ryzen Balanced power settings profiles. Combined score is a pretty dramatic increase, I would normally get ~6,000-6,500 but now it's over 7,500:

Hopefully Apple actually tested the thermals and power phases for this AIO monster of theirs. 180W Xeon + 300W Vega, with 128GB DDR4 ECC and 4GB of PCIe NVME SSDs? On the upside, this thing will be an effective space heater for those cold, northern winters.

I had a Phillips/Magnavox Hi-Fi VHS back in the late 90's to early 2000's. By the time the PS2 came around I pretty much abandoned VHS for DVD in home theater use.

DX12 seems to be broken with Ryzen in a few situations

http://www.techspot.com/article/1374-amd-ryzen-with-amd-gpu/ In certain situations, Ryzen performs worse in DX12 especially when paired with a GeForce GPU. Hopefully AMD will help nVidia optimize their DX12 drivers on Ryzen as GTX 1080/1070/1060s are the highest selling GPUs currently. Edit: Updated...

Re: AotS Ryzen patch

I don't want to be mean or anything, I really want AMD to succeed here, but it seems like what we have is Intel CPUs working really well out of the box, but we'll have to wait for game devs to patch games to maximize performance on Ryzen. That seems to be a tall order unfortunately, since it's just...

Wierd. Even with 8 cores at 4.05 GHz I don't score this high. Perhaps there's hope for the 6 core Ryzen 5 after all?
