Re: G-Sync Monitors?

Doesn’t triple buffering basically do a similar thing? It just requires more memory on the card. So instead of upping memory on their cards, now we have to update all our monitors. Also suspect that the NVidia G-sync monitors will not play nice with AMD cards. Don’t think this tech is compatible wit...

Re: Cars - are they commodities?

It depends on where you live. German's design for the autobahn, and while it is not the unlimited speed highway system it used to be the cars are designed to handle the autobahn speeds. It is subtle, but a system designed to handle those speeds is going have more design requirements and refinements ...

Re: What color would you pick for a sleek sedan?

Depends. If you live where it is hot, and sunny, white is a smart choice, but if you live in a dusty rural area, or sooty city it will look dirty quick. Metal flake Silver reflects a lot of solar energy and still hides minor dust and dirt. Also do you have a significant other? If so I'd consult them...

Re: Reality Comes to Paradise - Valve Continued...

Guys, I'm sorry, but if you are a hardware tech expert who can't figure out how to use machine tools to make your own parts with all the modern sources of education than you really are probably not the self-motivated hardware tech expert Valve hired you to be. I mean it is really not much more compl...

Re: Share Your Thoughts about Onboard Audio

In my previous XP build I has creative X-Fi extreme. I love the positioning and clarity. With my current Win 7 64-bit pro I tried to reuse the board, but the driver nightmares made me pull the card, and use the on board. My Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 is not bad. It has Realtek ALC889 codec, supports 2/...

Re: My farewell to extreme PCs

I understand as I’ve a Sandy Bridge P-2600K and twin GTX580 in SLI and unfortunately don’t see any need to upgrade for a long time. Most games are console ports these days and coded for obsolete hardware and they don’t task my current system. Maybe after the next generation of consoles comes through...

Re: Console vs. gaming PC

I've a couple PC's for me and my wife as well as a Wii, and PS3. The Wii with balance board and PS3 with move gather dust. I gave the Wii to my brother-in-law, and you know what it does, gather dust, he is giving it to my sister just to clean out is AV cabinet. The PC I use every day and I'd say my ...

Re: John Carmack: Ultimate Troll?

I’ve been a gamer since the mid to late seventies. Yeah, I’m that old. Pen, paper, and text based RPG on computer. I own Wii, and PS3 though I will admit I rarely play them. I did for the first month or two after purchase, but the superior graphics, fast, and precise controls of my lazar mouse quick...

Re: Are we close to a true technological breakthrough?

I still think we have a long way to go. I have been reading about flying cars for nearly half a century, not a single production one exist. I’ve been reading about cold fusion for almost as long. I have been dreaming of Rosie from the Jetsons, instead there is pathetic toy called the Rumba. Don't me...

Re: what is your dream car?

For pure transport it would be a helicopter. Why bother with traffic and speed limits. I’d have my personal assistant schedule limo pick up. With that kind of money I don’t need to be driving on the streets. I don’t need some stooge driving a beater crash into me and sue me. However if forced to I’d...

Re: Car with best 0-60 for under $25k, new or used

I've driven the new V6 Mustang and it is a very nice car with great mileage for the money and it is actually surprisingly good in snow and low traction environments. Considering that it is almost as fast as the old GT that is saying a lot for the V6. After the warranty is over and you want a bit mor...
