Re: VirtualBox vs VMWare Player

Did you have the Extension Pack (for USB 2.0 support) installed? Otherwise, the camera connection was probably running at USB 1.1 speeds. I did have the Extension Pack, but that doesn't matter as these are network cameras on gigabit ethernet. Some are TCP running our own protocol (but only have 100...

Re: VirtualBox vs VMWare Player

I've used VirtualBox here at work to maintain our Linux SDK (for our IR cameras). Basic functionality and camera connection was no problem, but image capture, processing and display was damn near impossible: 2-5 frames every 30 seconds for a camera that should be throwing out up to 100fps (depending...

Re: Password works in Forum but not in Comments

I've run into this problem. No amount of case-switching or cache/cookie cleaning seemed to help, so I tried something else. I changed my forum password, got reactivation mail (probably because I changed my email address aswell), reactivated -> comments worked again. I changed forum password back to ...

Re: winsxs folder over 11GB???

the winsxs folder doesn't actually take up much space on the drive. It contains a large number of hardlinks to system files located throughout windows and so deleting it is fairly pointless as the files also exist somewhere else. The problem is, not even explorer can make out the difference between...

If it has Ralink RT2500 or related chips: http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/S ... ndows.html (got those for my WMP54G on Vista x64)
It can be a little tricky to get Windows to recognise to driver first, but once you get it going, it works like a charm.

Re: Vista Hibernate/Lock Buttons

I've seen registry hacks that replaced the buttons above those (so: control panel, run,...) back when SP1 came out, to get the search back into the startmenu, so I wouldn't be suprised if the other buttons were also tweakable through the registry. Whether anyone has done this before, and preferably ...

Re: The CALL to ARMS. What's your contribution?

It's 2 single core clients actually. FAHSpy is now projecting ~300 PPD. Not sure I'm ready to bother a beta client yet, considering my experiences so far (and I'm not counting VMs as an option). Did you turn on "large WU" when you are configuring the clients? It is the "Accept units ...

Re: The CALL to ARMS. What's your contribution?

I've just added my A64 X2 3600+ to the mix, FAHSpy is projecting ~210 PPD. I'm running a GF7600GS, so no GPU-client for me (If I understood correctly). I do feel the need to say, these clients are an utter disaster in usability. You need to run the SMP client. 210ppd looks to be from a single core ...

Size the browser window so that there isn't any wasted space and used the remaining area for other windows. At least, thats how I do it. Yeah, me too. Changed the way I work pretty decisively actually, a lot less that really interferes anymore. The occasional site does tend to get a maximise-click,...

Well, finally my box crashed again so I took the opportunity to replace the PSU with a Zalman 360W from my parent's previous box (it replaced a dying PSU there too :D). 5V is now reading at 4.95, and 12V at 12.2, which seems a lot healthier from the get go. It's been running for 10 minutes now so I ...

Low 5V line crashing my PC?

My PC just took a nosedive twice in ~1 hour, so it's time for some panicking. It starts with some odd behaviour by my hard drives. Several times now today, I've been hearing some weird noises, best described as if one (or at the end of booting, both) drive is shutting down with the standard hard cli...

I've had an the 300W PSU that came with my AOpen QF50 case fry on me after ~18months, took out the mobo and cpu with it. Another 18months later, the 330W Antec SmartPower that replaced it is still behaving perfectly. On my parents' old Compaq, the PSU gave way more slowly, after ~4 years, sometimes ...

Re: Odd...

That's way too high. Your PC is fast enough that this shouldn't be an issue. My guess is that something was running in the background as you ran the test. Are there any background tasks running on your PC that use the HDD? Alternatively, the CPU just could be doing something else and HDTach just re...

Disturbing CPU usage by IDE

After seeing CPU usage numbers in the DiamondMax 10 review earlier, I decided to start caring about my own IDE CPU usage, and well, I think something is wrong, but I can't find it. HDTach 2.70 results The throughput numbers are obviously fine (always 45~50MB/sec), but that 30% CPU usage can't be rig...
