Re: White 5.25" card reader!?

Thanks guys. Not overly keen to put paint anywhere near my PC tbh :P

I did just find this: http://www.xigmatek.com/product.php?productid=128

Looks like it might do the trick. ~$20 on Ebay.

White 5.25" card reader!?

Hey all,

I'm after a USB 3.0 card reader for my Fractal Design R4 case (to fit in the optical drive bay).. but it needs to be white! I've been Googling and Googling but can only find black ones.

Would someone kindly point me in the right direction? :)

Cheers

Re: Installing Windows 7 - error

Right, I did some more Googling. I pulled out all drives except for the SSD, and now I've installed Windows successfully. But on the reboot after the Windows install completes, I'm getting "Reboot and select proper boot device"... I have to actually go into BIOS and select the SSD to boot ...

Installing Windows 7 - error

Hey guys, Right, having a bit of trouble with the new PC I built today (4930k, Asus P9X79 LE). I have 2x 3TB drives in a RAID 1. I also have a 256GB Samsung Evo SSD which I want to install Windows on. However, when I get to the Windows installer, create a new disk from the unallocated space and hit ...

Offline website editor similar to Wix/Weebly?

Hi all, I currently use Weebly to build my business website. I'd like to build an offline version so I can use a host of my choosing. But as I have very little web design skills, and no time to learn, I need an offline editor that's as simple to use as the Weebly editor. Does anyone have any recomme...

Re: How to plug in numerous system fans

Hrm ok thanks for that. The back of the fans say 0.10A +- 10%

The board is a Gigabyte H87N-WIFI. Not too sure how the headers on those boards generally do.

Maybe should just stick with 2 fans and play it safe.

Re: How to plug in numerous system fans

Thanks guys, appreciate the tips. I think I'll just go with an adapter, keeps wiring mess to a minimum. Just need to figure out how many amps my fans draw

Re: How to plug in numerous system fans

Ah, didn't even think about an adapter. Thanks for that.

I'm using 120mm fans, would 4 of them be too much for the single PWM socket?

How to plug in numerous system fans

Hi all, Apologies if this has already been covered. I have 4 fans in my Bitfenix Prodigy case, but my motherboard only has 1x 4-pin fan connector. I'm after something that will allow me to plug the remaining fans in. Maybe a fan controller of some sort that will fit in my 5.25" bay? But I would...

Re: New Mini ITX build, any suggestions?

This may sound silly, but my main reason for wanting the Prodigy case is the colours (love the blue) and the styling. As for the motherboard, I'm choosing the Gigabyte board because I want to dual boot Windows and OS X (Hackintosh) as I use Final Cut, and that board is one of the recommended fully c...

New Mini ITX build, any suggestions?

Hi all, I'm looking at building a Mini ITX system for video editing and a bit of light gaming. I've chosen the parts, basically I just want to know if there's anything anyone would change? I want it to be as powerful as possible (in terms of CPU performance) so I will be over clocking. Gigabyte GA-Z...

Re: External RAID "dirty"

So I ended up transferring all the data off the RAID and formatting it. That fixed the problem. Now this afternoon its done the exact same thing again. I can't access the drive, CHKDSK won't help. This time I didn't unplug a cable or anything. Now, I've used this drive on my Mac for a year without a...

Re: Video editing build

Another question-- Who can comment on the i7 4770 vs the 3930? I'd love to get the 3930, I do a lot of rendering/encoding, etc, so the 6 cores would definitely be useful. But it's going to really push my budget. Am I really going to see a massive difference between them? I'm thinking that I'd rather...

Re: External RAID "dirty"

Why is every thread I see about RAID always about problems? I can't say I know a whole lot about RAID but sheesh, enough to make me not want to use it. Can't really blame it on RAID, I did yank the cable out when it was running. Doing that would be bad for any setup. I've been using RAID in various...

Re: Video editing build

From what I've reade, Avid requires a Quadro card to enable the GPU to render effects in real-time on the timeline, which is (apparently) a lot faster than doing it on the CPU. The official system requirements state: "Graphics Card: NVIDIA Quadro FX family** (FX 560 or higher)" In my date...

Re: External RAID "dirty"

Edit: Another potential concern with external RAID enclosures like yours is, if the enclosure itself dies you need to get another (possibly identical, but at least from the same vendor) enclosure to recover your data. This is why I tend to stick with software RAID... I don't think that's the case. ...

Re: External RAID "dirty"

Yep it has a RAID controller built-in. I can't copy all of the data off easily, there's almost 2TB of it and short of buying a new external drive, I have nowhere to copy it to. The LCD display on the front of the enclosure indicates the hard drives are "ok", so I think it must be a Windows...

Re: External RAID "dirty"

I think some more information about the array would be helpful - make/model, connection type (esata, usb, firewire, etc), RAID type, etc. Did you accidentally unplug the power or the data connection? If it was power, does the array have any kind of battery backup for the cache (assuming write-cache...

Re: Video editing build

The video card is still an issue. I did a bit of research and found out that Avid Media Composer (my editing software) requires a Nvidia Quadro video card for GPU rendering to be unlocked. This is beneficial for things like rendering effects in real-time. Plus the Avid software is optimised to work...

External RAID "dirty"

Hey all, I accidentally unplugged my external RAID today, and now Windows is reporting the volume is "dirty". It's read-only and I can't do anything with it. I tried CHKDSK first, which gives me the message "corruption was found while examining the volume bitmap.". It hangs there...

Re: Video editing build

Thanks for the info everyone! Much appreciated. I think I'm going to find it difficult to justify buying the GTX Titan. Here in NZ, it's around $1700, whereas the GTX680 is under $1000. I'm not sure I've ever heard of this "high-precision" mode, or whatever it is. More research needed on m...

Re: Video editing build

Thanks guys. Interesting that there are differing opinions on the 3930 vs 3970. As for the Titan, honestly never heard of it. I'm assuming it's some ultra high-end version of the GTX680? I'll have to do some research! Anyone have any comments on the GTX680 vs 780? There's a pretty significant price ...

Since you need this to do work I'd absolutely recommend the 3970, usually I'm the resident cheapskate but pro editing is the one area I say go for broke because this is your stock in trade and saved time equals cash money. Sabertooth comes with a 5 year warranty. That may be worth the small price i...

What NLE do you use? Makes a difference in what to suggest.

Avid Media Composer 6.5

Avid typically recommend Quadro cards, but from past experience, standard GeForce cards work fine.

I also use a lot of Photoshop and After Effects.

Video editing build

Hey guys! I've done a lot of research on the parts I want to buy for my video editing build, but I'd really appreciate some first-hand opinions :) I'm a professional video editor, and processing power is what I'm after. Higher clock speed/more cores will really help with rendering time. This is what...
