Re: What's the last piece of tech you regret buying?

MSI something-or-other netbook. I thought "web on the go" would be awesome. Abysmal performance, inadequate LCD brightness for outdoor use, unimpressive battery life, and limited wifi coverage (at the time) rendered it almost useless. I could browse in bed---if I didn't want to watch any ...

There's an update to that TMDB scraper that hasn't been merged yet 3.8.0 -> 3.8.1 according to folks on IRC.

Have you tried Yatse for a remote yet? You can thank me later.

I love the Engenius access points I've used. They have a EAP1750AC that is just under 300 bucks. Simple interface and many SMB/Prosumer features.

No affiliations here, just a fan. 5 installed at work, 1 at home.

Re: New HTPC Build questions

Linux and XBMC can easily do all that you want to do on that little guy. Still no need to run windows The whole reason I ended up on XBMC was that my movies were stuttering and getting out of sync all the time cause the system couldn't keep up. On a bit of a tangent I just noticed that after the wi...

Re: New HTPC Build questions

What are you running for an OS? My e5200 with Intel onboard and 4GB of ram and XBMCuntu plays 10GB mkv just fine across gigabit lan. If you move these files locally to rule out the NAS do they play ok?

The build sounds good, other then I wouldn't ever run RAID5 with only 3 drives.

I've built in the Node 304 and I can't say that I was disappointed, knowing that it would be somewhat cramped. The rest of the part list is fine, my only concern was the thickness of that video card but after seeing pictures you're good to go. Take your time, get your cables neat and tidy and rememb...

Where does one obtain said kill-a-watt? I have a pretty high electricity bill. I'm in Canada, and my electricity is something on the order of $0.10/kwh. Most of our electrical generation here is coal-fired power stations. I miss Manitoba and their Hydro for 6.7 cents/kwh. :( I hear ya. In Ontario a...

Notfred hit the nail dead on. A wireless router will be cheaper generally and can be repurposed to be an access point. At my workplace I've been using Engenius products for the access points we've needed. (upgrading signal / speed from older Linksys routers running DD-WRT)
