Re: New to Linux - HTPC/Plex server

USB for the distro as that will be much faster than DVD even on USB2.

What devices will playback be on?

Re: New Low-Cost PC Platform: Apollo Lake with Goldmont Core

Honestly I am interested about Cloudbooks. I don't need a massive amount of compute power when I am on the go, but it would be nice to have a keyboard. My only issue is that I am not sure Windows can run well with such constrained resources.

Re: SteamVR Performance Test Released – No VR Headset Needed

Conclusion: SteamVR Performance Test is unlikely a good test of expected VR performance from the system, it just tests the GPU and even that is quite broadly done. I disagree. It's a good test, at least right now, if you allow for the limitations. It's a test of a older game engine that is not real...

Re: Receiver shopping...

Power's usually more about handling transients well (like explosions) rather than average volume. Best to always have more on tap. Yes this is correct. Wasn't clear enough in my explanation. I personally wouldn't touch an Onkyo model. They're usually feature-rich compared to everything else in thei...

Re: Receiver shopping...

Honestly I would not get a receiver for its 4k/UHD support at this time. HDMI 2.0a just came out and adds support for HDR video. It would be better to get the receiver that offers you the most bang for your buck in terms of audio channels, room correction, video processing, etc. Also power does not ...

Re: High Resolution Monitor Worth It?

... I know that we've been using "deep color" workstations for some time now, like old SGI Reality Engines, or Pantone calibrated screens for print work, but why did 10 bit color gamut never catch on in consumer level displays like TVs or regular computer monitors?.... Is it just a price ...

Both. Get the models that have oc after the 27 in their model name. Those can be overclocked past 60hz. Also read this.

Re: Strategy Games

If you enjoyed Age of Empires, you'll probably love Rise of Nations. I enjoyed AoE II and I got the same enjoyment from RoN. It's on Amazon for only $ 9.99 Also I agree with StuG on the Total War franchise. You may want to look at all the different titles though; to me Empire and it's kin plays diff...

Re: Step Two: Look for work

For researching a potential employer, http://www.careerbliss.com/ , is a good site. I just found it this morning, while trying to prepare for an interview. Glassdoor is also a good site to look at. Now for actually finding a job, posting your resume to Career Builder , or any of the other sites like...
