Re: High Resolution Laptop

Hm. Well I guess the other part I didn't mention is that I don't want something huge. 17" is pushing it for me, 15 is better, smaller is even better. I know it's possible somewhere to find smaller laptops with high resolution, because people have (though it may require getting it from overseas)...

High Resolution Laptop

I'm looking to get a new laptop, and the thing that's most important to me is the resolution. I'd like 1920x1200 if I can get it, though 1920x1080 could be acceptable. Beyond that, I'm just looking for something basic for internet browsing and WoW. Bonus if it has a Trackpoint-style pointer . Any id...

USB 3.0 5.25" bay

I'd like to get USB 3.0 on my front panel if I can, but my motherboard doesn't have any internal USB 3.0 connectors, and my case doesn't have the front panel connector. Is there such a thing as a USB 3.0 PCIe expansion card with a 5.25" bay front panel?

Re: X-fi Xtremegamer optical out

Check to make sure, but most receivers will have some type of spdif in. If not optical, then coax, and you can get a converter. It should do 5.1 with that.

Re: Looking to buy a MINI

Honda Fit FTW. 16.5k for the sport model (manual transmission), way more space than you'd expect for a car that size, and decent gas mileage. I've put 90k miles on mine in just under three years now, and I love it. Plus it's a Honda, so you can expect 150k out of it without too much trouble.

Alright, dock ordered.

Any advice on partitioning?

Re: What to do with my hard drives...

The RAID 1 wasn't for backup specifically, more for if a drive dies and it's been some time since backup, I'll hopefully not lose all of it. I looked at the docking station.. maybe I'll do that. Is there an easy way to do the mirroring? And what about partitioning? Still a good idea? Will it complic...

What to do with my hard drives...

So I recently built a new system, and I put a 1TB Spinpoint F3 in it as main storage. At some point I'll probably get an SSD for operating system stuff, but I'm going to put that off a year or so and let the tech mature a bit more. Not too long after building the system, the F3 went on sale on Neweg...

Wrapped up the entire game in 2 days except 25 mission -All in. I was playing in normal difficulty level thinking the game was too easy. But hell breaks over you once you in All in mission. It took me 3 days to complete that last mission. Plus that happened only when Kerrigan for some reason didn't...

Re: Help me find a monitor

So I've been using the VW266H for a few days now, and I love it. I don't notice much color grading across it, and the viewing angles aren't too horrible - I had a few people watching episodes of a TV show on it (not straight-on viewing) without any problems. Didn't have any dead or stuck pixels when...

3) However large you make your windows drive, you'll probably wish you made the partition bigger at some point. This. Had a computer a little while back (originally got it in '03) that was partitioned into 15GB for Windows XP and 65GB for the rest, and it sucked trying to keep that thing from using...

Re: Help me find a monitor

The Dell U2410 is another good 1920x1200 IPS choice. It often gets down to $500 with their "instant savings," sometimes lower if you have a coupon you can combine with it.

I just picked up one of those VW266H's, should be arriving today. Looks pretty solid as long as you get it calibrated right. I won't be able to get to it for a week, but after that I'll let you know what I think of it.

Re: Heads up! iPods disappearing!

If you don't mind 128kbit AAC, iTunes can automatically downsample your music on the device while it's still in its original format in your iTunes collection. It took my MP3 collection and cut the space used by about 1/3, and now I can have most of my stuff with me anywhere on an 8GB device (my col...

Re: Really paranoid about static. Please help

I didn't mean to give the wrong impression by saying I didn't have problems with it. It's certainly something to be careful about and it's a horrible idea to ignore recommendations on avoiding static, but I wouldn't be too paranoid about it. All the guides I've seen have said "get a wrist-strap...

Re: Really paranoid about static. Please help

I put my computer together in my kitchen with no wrist-strap, and had no problems, even with walking back and forth to the computer in the other room (over carpet) multiple times. I just made sure to touch the case every time I came back to the kitchen, as well as before picking up any parts. Haven'...

Re: Heads up! iPods disappearing!

It looked from what I saw like the shuffle and nano were going to get merged into a single small touchscreen device. I think they'll keep the classic around unless something else gets a storage boost to where it can store more than 100GB.

Re: Power supply fan

I was concerned that with it sitting on carpet, it wouldn't get enough air into the bottom since the case is sunk down in a little bit. It may have trouble getting fresh air to the PSU.

Power supply fan

I recently assembled my first system, which included a HAF922 and a Corsair TX750. Because this system is sitting on carpet, I figured I shouldn't aim the power supply at the bottom of the case, so I installed it upside down (the case provides mounting holes that allow for that). Right now I'm not o...

Re: Intel vs. AMD 6 Core Vs. AMD 4 Core BE

I think if you pick up something that you can play most current games on with full res/details/AA, that'll usually give you 3 years if you turn details down on the newer games. The comp that I just replaced, I got in 2003 and got the video card in 2004 (for $150), and in 2007 I started playing WoW a...

Then when I install new programs I decide between the mechanical and SSD based on size and use pattern, and games I end up playing a lot I copy from my Steam directory to the SSD and make a symlink to. Interesting. So you just keep most of the stuff pointing at the HDD and symlink it to the SSD whe...
