Re: Enter here for a chance to win a GeForce GTX 560 Ti

Some interesting moments from Borderlands :) This was a 3 guy player ladder on top of each other and screwing around. http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/6673/bl3run.png http://img806.imageshack.us/img806/3534/bl3run2.png http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/461/bl3jump.png http://img24.imageshack.us/img...

Re: Annoying Router Failure Problem

I've had similar issues with the 615 router. If you find a solution please let me know. Now that you mention the torrents, I think my problem was worse when downloading files but it's hard to pinpoint when the network connection dropped. It hasn't happened very often lately but perhaps bi-weekly but...

Re: New build freezing

I had memory issues but it resulted in random BSOD's when doing anything intensive. Underclocking was stable then too.

Re: My computer is broken (formerly blamed on Civ V)

I don't know if you mentioned it, but are you overclocking? I have seen similar situations due to the motherboard not handling overclocked ram despite 'supporting' the higher speeds. If you are overclocking set everything to default and give it a try. I'd venture a guess that you're not ocing in whi...

Re: First time build (could really use some help)

RAID won't fix the biggest performance issue with the Caviar Green drives, which is seek latency. The Samsung HD103SJ would provide better performance at about the same price point. You might still use the Caviar Green drives for storage and to hold your large video files, but the drive that holds ...

Re: SSD's and overall experience

I feel similarly, but the thing is how fast applications load and how snappy the system feels overall. Is it worth the price premium? I'm not entirely sure, but it can help. Upgrading to an X25-V also worked WONDERS for my ThinkPad X100e. You brought up a great point, in that area (laptops) I can c...

View new posts quick link?

Is there a way to go directly to view new posts DIRECTLY from any forum page? I have only found -> Board index -> View new posts, so every time I need to go to an intermediate transitional page to get there. I wish it was in the area with the forum path or somewhere very convenient.

SSD's and overall experience

As for the speeds, I don't know what other people use their computers for, but I don't think they are worth the $ yet. Perhaps people upgrade from a few year old hard drive which is already outdated by even conventional hard drives, but I went from a WD 640 GB hard drive to an agility 2 and I'm not ...

Re: Considering purchasing an SSD, should I wait?

I was looking to purchase a Vertex 2 soon, however I've been told that I might want to hold off until Christmas, but never told why. Is there going to be a new wave of drives coming out soon? Or are prices going to drop dramatically? Prices are supposed to reach $1 per GB around Christmas. Also, I ...

Re: Headphone Questions

I've tried the HD 595's and they are excellent. There are a couple caveats however, the speaker is "open" and at even a slightly above normal volume can be clearly heard across the room. The sound quality was awesome and crisp. All sounds could be clearly distinguished even in the midst of...

Re: Best laptop quality and performance for price $1000

I think the i5's are a great choice. The i7 laptops basically start at $1000 so you'd only get the base models with a cheaper video card to compensate for the more expensive processor. I think Asus generally has good options for reasonable prices. One 16" i7 / ATI 5730 1 GB option: (5730 may be...

Ouch that sounds like a typical quicksand type issue in *nix. I would try messing with the gfx card driver and maybe reinstalling it if you have a 3rd party driver.

Re: eSATA "Smart" Power-on

I've only recently began using eSata being it was in my motherboard and I found a second hand drive cheap. My experience is limited but I can answer a couple questions. The hard drive enclosure needs a power supply to the outlet. The hard disc is NOT spinning while the computer is off. However, the ...

Re: Help choosing partition strategy for windows 7

I would agree on the points of having separate physical hard drives if/when possible. However, I think you have thought out your strategy pretty well as most of us can't/choose not to buy extra HD's. However, I beg to differ on the complexity of extra partitions. Maybe it's more about learning habit...

Re: Win one of three Asus Xonar sound cards

Where do I begin. Firstly, in the past I have had hardly sufficient PC's to play modern games. Several years back I finally saved up a bit and got a 3d card. The video card was great and it was awesome to actually be able to play games on the PC with medium resolutions. I think the difference betwee...
